Been watching Love is Blind lately. Some thoughts 1. they talk often about sleeping arrangements as a part of compatibility. "do u snuggle when u sleep" kind of stuff. I'm confused, this seems SO low down the tier of important stuff. Is it important for other people? 2. No discussion *whatsoever* about level of openness in the relationship. The level of monogamy is assumed and background and unspoken. There's no negotiation about flexibility, flirting with others, what are the boundaries? 3. The show seems designed to cause people to want to try to get married even if they wouldn't want to otherwise 4. Like 70% of most of what is said in early stages is signalling the kind of person they want to be, and it's very PR-friendly. Anything controversial or might be a turnoff is hidden obliquely inside words that beg for the listener to think well of them. 5. The fights involve a lot of people hearing what they want to hear 6. They engage in CONSTANT reassurance and bids for reassurance. There's a regular dynamic where someone will make a bid to be reassured, and if the other person does not reassure them this is considered a huge faux-pas. Even if the reassurance would be a lie! "Sometimes I worry you don't love me and aren't 100% committed to marrying me" in a tone that demands their partner to say "no worries babe I gotchu I'm all in" and theatens a freakout if they say "actually you're right I'm not sure" 7. Lots of... like... trying to go along with A Narrative? It seems like both people have ideas about the way a relationship/fights/dynamics/storylines *should* go, and say words like they're following the narrative (even if they aren't), and use deviation from these narratives as grave sins that must be atoned for.
