I was asked—nicely I might add!—to take the last one down. I didn't, but I'll unpin it. I didn't like how the Trump face over Jesus came out anyway, so I'll revert back to this one. Maybe I should try it again with Trump w/Jesus hair, or get rid of the Jesus hair altogether 🤔

@6siders @AtheistRepublic Well I *think* most people imagine it just means “a serious change” [that would promote more moderate interpretations of Islam]. But “The Reformation” in Christianity seems to generally refer to Luther & the Protestant schism. In which case it's wasn't a moderating force.

Can Islam be reformed? If you have a different answer, explain below 👇

@SomePersonsTwit @AtheistRepublic We can call the general moderation of religion “reformation” but it seems that “the reformation” generally refers to Luther. In general the idea of “reformation” of an idea is what I imagine people think Islam needs, which is fine.

@nescientswot @AtheistRepublic Id argue the rise of secularity is what lead to reformations. Luther doesn't represent the only reformation.christianity experienced - its just the most clearly dividing and drastically noticeable. Reform can happen.over time, as sensibilities overtale zealotry.

@JazMusicAM @AtheistRepublic I'm saying something even stronger: the fall of religiosity in Europe was *caused by* the rise of secularism. As to how to curb extremism, I'm not sure—education, discussion, public awareness? America is struggling really hard w/it.

@SarahTheSmith While I agree to a degree, I think if we use the word ‘experience’ on that level we must recognize that it is in an extremely limited relative to our own. Apparently sponges are the only animals w/out nervous systems, though at least some will shrink where touched?

@nescientswot A sense of experience does not require the capacity to verbalise, rationalise or philosophise. (UK Spelling). An amoeba could have some sense of experience as could a tree without any narrative being attached to it. Neurones are a modification of properties found in most cells.

I think it's far more likely they function like a plant, so the question is, do plants know they exist? :P Just kidding, I don't think plants are aware of their existence either. I think only a handful of species have a strong grasp of their existence really.
Graham@Tachyon100

@nescientswot Interesting choice, but do you think they know they exist, or just function like a plant?

What animal would you choose to be reincarnated as? For me it would have to be a dolphin, just to ruin their reputation.

@ryansaavedra The correct statement would be “some algorithms,” but yes, she's correct. Just because they're “based on math” doesn't mean they can't be racist, & you must have been living under a rock because there's been a lot of studies showing precisely that over the last several years.

@RealizingJesus The emotional state of valuing something a great deal, often as much or more so than yourself (a person—spouse, family, or friend usually). Typically evidenced by a person's behavior toward who (or what) they love.

@RealizingJesus Social cooperation (of which love is one of many types) benefits survival. That's why love, morality, eusocial insects, social behavior, tribes, etc., all evolved. Evolution is essentially tautological. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@chubbyemu Your videos are amazing! I got hooked after watching the one on Karen Wetterhahn—I originally heard her story in high school chemistry in '98 (I live in NH) though in far less detail. I just watched the melanoma one & wondered if you could do one on Jimmy Carter?
