Street Fighter 6 // Progress Log:
We've made it to Gold in Street Fighter 6.
I can now comfortably say that this is definitely the most difficult challenge I've ever undertaken, and I AM FUCKING LOVING IT.
We're on Day 5 of the journey, and HOLY FUCK THIS SHIT IS HARD MAN??? The mental stack required to play fighting games well is truly NEXT LEVEL.
I'll go into more detail on my take of comparing the mental stacks of a fighting game vs. League of Legends, which is unquestionably the only comparable game in terms of how intense the mental stack is in a separate post.
Today, we're focusing on the difficulty of this game and the genre.
As difficult as this game is, it feels rewarding. Ten-fold.
I plateau'd two times during my day in silver, going on crazy loss-streaks. We're talking literally winning 5/40 games, most of which getting blown out in.
Loss streaks happen in every single competitive game genre. League, Valorant, Deadlock, TFT, Overwatch, it doesn't matter.
Sometimes, you just lose. Often times, you won't really know why.
In a fighting game? All of that is different.
Each and every match; each and every loss?
The problem and solution were both right in front of me. There was no other option. No other alternative.
It was me.
It was my fault.
I did something wrong, I was punished for it, and I lost the match.
EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. WITHOUT FAIL.
I watched a SINGLE match replay of some Japanese dude playing modern Mai in Legend rank, and I immediately came to a sobering realization...
I've played 500 matches, and this dude literally would not have lost a SINGLE ONE of them.
NOT. FUCKING. ONE.
Of course, I'm self-aware enough to know this. It's just VERY difficult to recognize and more so understand what exactly the problem is without external help.
Beginning to truly comprehend the level of skill-diff in this shit just a uniquely sobering realization, and man I fucking love it LMFAOOO.
I'm still running with basically zero external help/coaching, and HOLY FUCK.
The feeling of slowly piecing the puzzle of the problematic patterns in my gameplay loop and understanding what habits I'm doing that cause me to get punished...
Then implementing changes and INSTANTLY IN REAL-TIME seeing me block and punish scenarios where 30 minutes ago I would've just straight up died?
UNREAL DOPAMINE SPIKE.
THE FIGHT CONTINUES!
