I don’t think any woman goes through their training not wanting to work. Over 50% of those who responded did a fellowship. There is a problem with our health system that needs to be resolved to keep the women and men we train in medicine. Including reducing the stress of the job, often due to mistreatment, discrimination & lack of opportunities for leadership roles, in addition to inequity in pay that has long been established.

📢LBCT #HRS2026 (+ Simultaneous pub @hrs_journal ) *⃣ Proton Beam Cardiac Radioablation for VT @MayoClinicCV #SciComms *⃣ Catheter-free proton beam radioablation (CRA) for refractory VT ➡️First-in-human feasibility study (n=7 treated) • Advanced cardiomyopathy (median LVEF ~26%) • Refractory VT despite AADs + prior ablation • Single fraction 30 Gy proton therapy 🎯 Key concept: Protons enable highly conformal targeting (Bragg peak) with minimal exit dose ➡️Efficacy signal: • VT burden ↓ 79% • Event rate: 7.24 → 1.52 events/patient-month 👉 Substantial but incomplete (recurrence in most pts) ➡️Safety: • No probable/definite treatment-related SAEs • No acute ICD dysfunction or peri-procedural complications • Limited off-target radiation (~4% myocardium ≥20 Gy) ➡️ Mechanistic insight: • Effect may be delayed (weeks–months) • May reflect fibrosis + EP remodeling, not immediate ablation 🤔Context: • Very high-risk population (HF-driven mortality) • Small, single-arm feasibility study • No control group; targeting remains non-standardized • Long-term toxicity unknown 🧑‍🎓Takeaway: Proton CRA is a feasible, noninvasive VT strategy with encouraging early safety and meaningful VT reduction …but remains early-stage and hypothesis-generating heartrhythmjournal.com/article/S1547-…
