We are very sorry for the disruption to your journeys this evening. Engineers are responding to a variety of failures across both the @Se_Railway network. This include a points issue at Slade Green, a power failure in the Whitstable area and a points failure in the Robertsbridge area. On the @SouthernRailUK and @TLRailUK network, we are dealing with a track circuit (equipment which tells the signaller where trains are) failure near Arundel and at South Bermondsey. Engineers are working to resolve the issues as quickly as possible but please check with your train operator before you travel.

The Easter weekend was as busy as ever across the south of England as Network Rail teams were out and about carrying out vital improvement works Across the @Se_Railway network, nine out of 10 trains ran as normal during the Easter weekend. During the four days, engineers 🛤️ installed over 820 yards of new track at Margate station 🌉 repaired the steelwork of the central span of the St Peter’s Road railway bridge in Broadstairs 🛤️ undertake track maintenance between Ashford International and Dover In Sussex, most @SouthernRailUK and @TLRailUK trains ran as normal with engineers carrying out the following pieces of work 🔩 soil nailing at Stone Cross cutting to reduce the potential for landslips ❎ refurbishing switches and crossings at Bognor Regis 🌉 re-installing the footbridge at Hampden Park station, which will re-open in mid-April. On the @SW_Help network, teams worked across three locations. Engineers 👷replaced four switches and crossings at London Waterloo and strengthened the railway bridge half a mile out from the terminus 📏enhanced the track alignment within the Eastleigh railway corridor 🛤️ installed 805m of new track between Axminster and Honiton We'd like to thank passengers for their patience and understanding and colleagues who spent the long weekend away from their families to improve your railway.

This weekend we have been soil nailing at Stone Cross, near Pevensey. Soil nailing is where high strength steel bars are drilled into the earth. This stabilises the embankment, reducing the risk of landslips. @SouthernRailUK services resume on Tuesday.

🐤EASTER WEEKEND: The railway is open for business in Kent, Sussex and south London, but passengers are advised to check before they travel as there are some essential engineering works taking place across the network. 🥚From Friday 3 to Monday 6 April, Network Rail's engineers will be working tirelessly to renew track, replace a footbridge near Eastbourne, repair a bridge in Broadstairs and refurbish switches and crossings (the moveable sections of track that move trains from one line to another) in various locations. 👷‍♀️Work will also continue on the long-term upgrade of signals in the Lewisham area, with the installation of new signalling equipment, and over 820 yards of new track will be installed at Margate station 🛤️To plan your journeys in advance, visit nationalrail.co.uk or your train operator: @SouthernRailUK @TLRailUK @GatwickExpress @Se_Railway.

We're really sorry to customers who have experienced disruption travelling in East Kent today. A small fire next to the track between Sittingbourne and Faversham stations has disrupted @Se_railway services, with the fire brigade having attended to tackle the fire. Train services have been cancelled, delayed by up to an hour or revised, and disruption is expected until 18:00. Rail replacement buses have been put into operation and are operating between Gillingham and Faversham and also between Faversham and Dover/ Ramsgate. Train tickets are also being accepted by local bus operators, with more details on journey planners. Customers who have been delayed may be entitled to compensation if they experience a delay in completing their journey today, and should keep their train ticket and make a note of their journey, as both will be required to support any claim.

Protecting a vital coastal railway — and making real progress at Folkestone Warren Some brilliant progress to share from the coast… For months, our teams and contractors have been working in one of the most challenging environments on the network — the shifting, beautiful, and sometimes unpredictable landscape of Folkestone Warren. To keep the railway between Folkestone and Dover safe for the long term, we've been installing 18,000 tonnes of rock armour along the beach, strengthening sea defences and helping stabilise ground that has a long history of movement. But that’s just part of the story. 🚧 What’s been achieved so far: Major drainage repairs where the system had dropped by a metre due to cliff slip. Around 50 new sheet piles installed behind the sea wall to stop seawater getting under the railway’s foundations. Groynes cleared, excess timber removed, and concrete across multiple bays repaired. Walkway renewal now underway between the defence and the cliff face. And crucially — all of this has been delivered without affecting passenger services, thanks to careful planning and the support of the community while parts of the beach have been temporarily closed. 🛰️ Keeping an eye on the landscape We’ve also expanded our real‑time monitoring network, so we can detect even the slightest ground movement and act fast to keep trains safe. This work helps us understand the scale of the challenge so we can put effective long-term solutions in place. 📅 What’s next? The project is on track for completion in July 2026, and each milestone brings us closer to a stronger, more resilient railway for the region. A huge thank‑you to everyone involved — from the teams on the ground to local residents for their patience and support. This is engineering work at its best: complex, collaborative, and making a real difference to the communities we serve.

More upgrades across south London, with new cables installed to improve signalling resilience in the Lewisham area. 📡⚡ Between Victoria and Clapham Junction, we installed new electric cable and maintained the axle counters — systems that detect if a section of track is clear. 🚨🛤️ Our teams carried out embankment scaling, critical work to remove rocks, and vegetation clearance at Carshalton. 🌿🪨 Thank you to all our teams for the great work — and to passengers for your understanding while we improve the railway. 🙏🚆💛 🧵2/2
