Kudos to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the police unions, and Gov. Hochul on their strong comments condemning the attack on officers in Washington Square Park.
No kudos for Mayor Mamdani on his comments. It is never okay for “𝙠𝙞𝙙𝙨” or anyone to throw anything at police officers — ever.

Over the weekend, thousands of uniformed and civilian members of the NYPD were working across the city to keep New Yorkers safe. Despite the dangerous conditions, the NYPD showed up. Calls were answered, and officers were out in neighborhoods responding to people who needed help during a storm that kept most of the city inside. So much of this work was only possible because of our PCTs, the steady voices at the other end of every 911 call. These are the first of the first responders, and @NYCMayor and I visited them today to thank them for their tireless work this weekend during the storm.

I’ve been briefed on an officer-involved shooting in Queens that occurred earlier today. The NYPD was responding to a 911 call, where they encountered an individual wielding a knife. The NYPD is assessing the situation, and we are committed to keeping New Yorkers informed as we learn more. I’m grateful to the first responders who put themselves on the line each day to keep our communities safe.
