Musk’s absurd poll on the racist and reactionary Trump is the last straw. I have opened a Mastodon account <@nextwavef> and will be working to make the most of Mastodon. I’m not going to delete this account yet, but I will in time. My Mastodon server is <mastodonapp.uk>.

@Amy_Siskind It’s easy to frame these moments as failures, but every major tech wave had chaos early on. The internet boom looked just as disorganized in the late 90s

Worth mentioning that two of the AI players basically blew themselves up this week: * Musk said he would basically start brand new on XAI after most of his cofounders left and his product is basically crap. * Meta also shared that it’s AI is not working properly, after Zuckerberg spent hundreds of billions hiring out from other companies and internal staff didn’t like it. The company now plans to layoff 20% of its employees.

@Ian_Crow3 @FA_PGMOL And if players think they’re going to get away with it because of referees not being competent on field and VAR not intervening, they’re going to keep doing it, and the game will get worse.

@Ian_Crow3 @FA_PGMOL Player runs through the back of an opposing player, leading with his elbow. That is not “normal contact”. VAR seems to be being used as a heatshield to protect referees who don’t want to referee what’s happening in front of them.

Compulsory Competitive Tendering was first introduced in 1980 by Margaret Thatcher to prevent the U.K buying from its own nationalised industries. The Conservative Gov’t that @ClaireCoutinho was a member of between 2019 & 2024 did NOTHING to change these procurement rules.
Claire Coutinho@ClaireCoutinho

Not only are we making our steel uncompetitive with umpteen regulations and taxes, we are also using green procurement rules that forbid us from using our own steel. This is madness. Driving up costs and killing off industry. Economic suicide and unbelievably wrong-headed considering geo-political risks.

@DalrympleWill The Daily Telegraph might have done such a thing because although its news pages once upheld proper editorial standards, regardless of the editorial stance of the paper, those days are long, long, gone.

I've just been chatting with Nick Cullinan, the excellent new director of the British Museum, and I'm very relieved to say that the story put by the Daily Telegraph about the BM cancelling the name Palestine is a complete misrepresentation of the facts: "To reassure you we are not removing mention from Palestine from our labels," Nick told me. "Indeed, we have a display on at the moment about Palestine and Gaza. "I know this is something our curators have thought long and hard about - as you can imagine. We amended two panels in our ancient Levant gallery last year during a regular gallery refresh, when some wording was amended to reflect historical terms. "To be honest, the even more frustrating and concerning thing is that I knew nothing about this until yesterday and has only been explained to me this morning. I hadn’t even seen that [UK Lawyers for Israel] letter despite asking for it until this morning. I’m disgusted by the whole thing." The question remains why the Daily Telegraph would put out such a mischief-making story without first fact checking it with the Directors office.

@Fourfourtw32102 Not the possible strongest line up, if not a reserve team, so what’s your point? I thought it was supposed to be good for football when clubs treated the FA Cup seriously.

Standards have been set this season and tonight was nowhere near them, not having this missing Xhaka as theres enough in that squad to pull in better performances than the last couple of games, why as well is Mukiele now off long throws too? #SAFC

@footyfinanceguy @ajwilso When the Independent looked at this a while ago they discovered that Sunderland’s finance team had modelled the PSR rules and that the model drove the transfer strategy (hence spending nothing in the Championship etc). I’m sure they’ve done the same with SCR.

It doesn’t stop at Mandelson. The Mandelson model of pay-to-play influence peddling is at the heart of Keir Starmer’s government, busy giving away the NHS to the likes of Palantir. The reason the Labour Right fought so hard is because they wanted their turn at the public trough.

Selling influence on policy—what used to be called corruption. “It is possible to mold, have your fingerprints on what we’re doing,” Starmer told a roundtable of big business reps, as reported in @politico. politico.eu/article/keir-s…
