@DanielPriestley @garyseconomics It’s not about being one more tax from fixing, it’s about actually addressing the problem, which everyone seems hesitant to do because the battle is against the will of the very people it affects.

On X we feel like we’ve thoroughly debunked wealth taxes. We’ve seen the experts rally together and explain clearly why it would be a total disaster for the UK. Out in the real world, @garyseconomics is winning. About 75% of Brits are taken by the idea that we are just one more tax away from fixing the UK. I say this with a heavy heart but I think we are genuinely toast. At this point the inevitable will have to happen - socialists take over, implement a wealth taxes, destroy what’s left of the economy and impoverish a generation. The UK will be the next example of a nation that is crushed by socialist ideology. It will take 25+ years to recover from the damage. Gary will go down in history like Marx or Lenin but first he will be a national hero for a few years. As much as we think we are winning the argument inside this bubble, I assure you we are not. The country is months away from wealth taxes and a subsequent economic collapse. Socialism is the economic hot stove that countries seem to have to touch for themselves.

What Arthur Fery has achieved at Wimbledon is fantastic, and good luck to him . I just don't know how we can claim him as English. His parents are both French, and he was born in France. Doesn't that make him French

Whether you like/dislike Gary Stevenson and hated/loved his documentary, what he’s doing to get wealth inequality mainstream needs to be commended. Everything he says is aimed at a wealthy elite who will do everything they can to silence him from their positions of privilege.

I don't usually write personal stuff, but a few words about my experience of being interviewed by Gary Stevenson. It started with a nice chat, comparing taste in hoodies... then the tone changed. He demanded to know why I'd deleted a tweet criticising him.

@DanNeidle Billionaires are a good starting point for any argument on inequality. Anyone who’s buying houses for “passive” income is in this too for me. Rent is an extortion racket that does far more harm than good. I’m all for entrepreneurs, just make them build businesses not homes.

@nftholbein He seems to think that, but a few seconds’ thought shows it’s impossible. The impact of billionaires on house prices is teensy (outside eg very high value properties in Mayfair)

@DanNeidle I thought you came across well Dan. I do think Gary will be proven right on this issue even if his solution isn’t the right one. People fear wealth tax because it forces investment out, but that’s kind of the point. Billionaires sell up, house prices come down.

There were odd gaps in his knowledge. I said house prices had fallen in real terms over the last ten years, particularly in London. This was news to Gary. He didn't accept it. I didn't have the data to hand, but: about 9% fall nationally. 17% in London ons.gov.uk/economy/inflat…
