@billbarnwell Not saying I totally disagree but as you know, and outlier doesn't necessarily disprove a general point. Yes, if you have god-like footwork, feel, and quickness, you can do what he does at a small size. IN GENERAL adding better athletes will improve a team.

@StatesideShow It looks like it, but it's also close enough it's probably worth at least the automated review to show us, the fans at home

@USMNTCORNER This is not a harsh decision. This is a penalty every single time

This call has us going through the "offside situation" from a couple weeks ago. It's a fractional type of decision, so everyone and their mom thinks it should be fixed. Fact is, this is sports. I could go through almost every sport and give examples of harsh decisions like this.

@burgahmeister @MWIIIFan @SamENole All I can tell you is watch more, and you’ll get it more. That does not mean every ref call is correct. The ref wasn’t very good in that game, but that specific call was correct and is a foul every single time. And generally speaking anytime some karate kicks someone it’s a foul.

@nh8checkmate @MWIIIFan @SamENole You refute the point by saying some defense on why it is a foul, that could also be applied to many other contacts throughout the game that aren’t called. So the entire game is decided by when the ref feels like calling a foul

PKs being worth 1 with regular goals being worth 2 would make sense too. Exceptions for egregious fouls and intentional handballs etc. still being worth 2. It makes no sense that an entire game could be won because of an accidental kick to the leg to a guy that doesn't even have possession.
Matt Smith@SamENole

Giving a virtual free goal for an accidental minor foul is way too harsh of a penalty. Give a free kick outside of the box or something but not a PK. I don’t think Digne even knew Yamal was there. 🤷‍♂️

@burgahmeister @MWIIIFan @SamENole When the Spain player was fouled, he had “possession” of the ball. He was the last to touch it and would have continued dribbling toward goal had he not been kicked. You don’t need to physically be touching it for it to be yours.

@burgahmeister @MWIIIFan @SamENole With all due respect. If you have this much difficulty understanding this incident, I don’t know how you can be expected to accurately evaluate the refereeing, but I hope you keep watching and learning.

@MWIIIFan @nh8checkmate @SamENole The funniest thing is that even if you’re right, there’s no consistency in the officiating. None of these controversial calls that have been brought up have had unanimous agreement over the right call. And yet the ref has so much power in what they do/don’t call a foul

@nh8checkmate @MWIIIFan @SamENole Explain how I’m wrong. Every time I see 2 players going for the ball they inevitably bump into each other and 1 of them goes down. Nearly every single time

@burgahmeister @MWIIIFan @SamENole You already said that. I’ll help you out. You don’t understand soccer at the level you think you do. It’s nice that you’re a fan. But you are wrong in this instance. You should thank MWIIIFAN for trying to educate you. Read what he said. Go forward with a broader knowledge base.

@MWIIIFan @nh8checkmate @SamENole Soccer is a sport where players are constantly bumping into each other, because they have to use their chest/head/legs to control the ball. You simply can’t control the ball from a distance because of the restraints of the game. This makes nearly every single duel a foul

@burgahmeister @SamENole Here’s a helpful way to figure out your ‘thin’ line If you kick someone it’s a foul. If a foul is in the box it’s a pk.

@nh8checkmate @SamENole Accidental contact in a sport where you have to use legs and your head to control the ball is gonna happen every single time. And with it being as subjective as it is, it’s not a sport that truly rewards better players. It just rewards players good at drawing fouls

I changed my mind: Actually, the more I watch this, the more I see both* players were tracking the ball with their eyes & then both committed to a football moment at the exact same time. I feel these simultaneous actions should cancel out any penalty. One score in this game is too consequential.
JosinaAnderson@JosinaAnderson

I mean, Lamine Yamal of #Spain also ran into Lucas Digne’s kick leg from #France while Digne had already committed to the football movement. That’s how I feel it should* be interpreted. 💁🏾‍♀️

@suppaslappa @IncrediBhoi @burgahmeister @SamENole If he wasn’t fouled he was in on goal. I don’t really understand your protestations at all. If your awareness is so lacking that you don’t know a player might be nipping into your space and beat you to the ball so that you naively kick them, yes you deserve punishment.

@advorkovich Total chess championship = rapid World Cup = rapid Fide circuit = many rapid and blitz Why are 6 players qualifying the classical candidates by performing well in rapid and blitz? We already have a fide rapid and blitz world championship We have a total championship for that.

The qualification system for the FIDE Candidates Tournaments is one of the cornerstones of the FIDE World Championship cycle, and it is essential that it continues to evolve alongside the game itself. These changes have been carefully developed to make the qualification process more balanced, transparent, and performance-based. By introducing the Total Chess World Championship Tour as a new pathway, refining the allocation of the FIDE World Cup places, and placing greater emphasis on results achieved during the cycle, we are ensuring that every route to the Candidates rewards sustained excellence at the highest level of competition.

I understand the reasoning behind all of these changes, but dropping this on the chess community without any warning is bound to lead to some backlash.

♟ The FIDE Council has approved a series of significant changes to the format of the 2027 FIDE World Cup and the 2027 FIDE Women’s World Cup, following recommendations from the Global Strategy Commission. Beginning in 2027, both World Cups will be played over 19 days and will consist of two distinct stages. ▪️Stage 1: Swiss qualification The opening stage will consist of Swiss-system tournaments played with a Fast Classical time control of 45 minutes plus a 30-second increment per move. The FIDE World Cup will feature four Swiss pools, while the FIDE Women’s World Cup will be divided into two Swiss pools. Each Swiss tournament will be played over nine rounds across five days, with the pools balanced to ensure comparable playing strength. The leading players from each pool will advance to the knockout stage: – FIDE World Cup: Top four players from each of the four pools (16 players total) – FIDE Women’s World Cup: Top eight players from each of the two pools (16 players total) ▪️Stage 2: Knockout finals The second stage will retain the traditional knockout. The Round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and final will be played using the existing World Cup format and classical time controls. Read more: fide.com/fide-council-a… #FIDEWorldCup

FIDE had one asset. Classical chess. It cannot be done on a computer screen. The qualification to the classical World Championship will now be mainly through rapid events. This is exceptionally sad. x.com/FIDE_chess/sta…
