The nonprofit sector could function as government’s research and development arm for what solutions do and do not work. What works could then be funded on a larger scale by government as well as philanthropy. Government has no social problem-solving R&D arm other than the sector.

The distraction isn’t the non-stop guessing/questioning the motives of a shooter for the first days/weeks. It’s that we nonstop tell the story of a shooter at all. We are led to get so distracted by the individual why when the real question is the cultural how.

In a country with abundant resources, creativity, and intellect we continue to find ways to take things from people rather than finding ways to support people. I’ll never understand it. But I will continue to vote for more healthcare and rights, never less.
