Another example of their patronising disdain for Local listeners is not yet revealing the host of the new show which starts in a week I'm so sad that a uniquely special part of the BBC is being dismantled piece by piece by people who don't care about the impact of their decisions

@trevjrho Wouldn’t remotely surprise me if the lack of a presenter announcement is down to shambolic HR rather than conspiracy, Trevor. That said, the patronising disdain is real. And it extends to broadcasters and other professionals in LR.

@nickcoffer I recently went through and clicked not interested on the first five posts on my "for you" - All right wing people I would never follow (Gill, Pearson, Lowe etc). And it seems to have tidied it up today. I don't want to live in an echo chamber but I don't want Mein Kampf either.

My feed is flooded (99%) with extremist (mainly AI) content in a way I’ve never seen before. It’s happened in the last two days - like someone flicked a switch. It’s not subtle. I’m not even seeing whimsical football posts or jumping cats. The aim is clear. Stir hatred & unrest

@bedfordblue968 It’s all very paradoxical Noel. I think death is beyond being right of left. And just because someone says something on the radio or TV doesn’t even mean they believe it. It’s often an act. Hope all’s well with you dear listener!!

@nickcoffer Even more. Some people, often I notice from the left, who believe love is the answer spew hate. Then accuse the right of being, divisive, hate speech etc.

I rarely post. I scroll sometimes. But the threads of hatred/bile hours after James Whale died are a final straw. Is this what we’ve become? I didn’t share his politics/views. I disagree with almost all he said. But when I worked in the same newsroom, he was supportive and kind

In my broadcast career, I must have done, who knows, 7-8000 interviews. This was one of the rare ones which stopped me in my tracks and I could feel myself choking up as Eve told her story

Leading creativity etc. 2 Extra did none of this, so couldn't be justified, not least as the BBC can't use its power privilege to quash commercial entities. Competition, **yes**. Abuse of publicly funded power, no. I don't think it's deep.

However, the BBC has a phenomenal position of strength and power - and that is publicly funded. To maintain the privilege of that power, it needs to justify how it spends public money - and we all 1/2

Nicky, I seem to remember when your station first started you promoted the fact that you intended to get our @BBCRadio2 audience. We didn’t complain ,this is just healthy competition. However the current @Ofcom situation is just unfair, and you now have three stations without having to go through all the red tape that the BBC has to.

I know there’s the accessibility question but it becomes less the case as time moves on. Some of the most tec comfortable people I know are 75+!

@nickcoffer @NickyHorne @tonyblackburn @BBCRadio2 @Ofcom 2 extra as far as I understand was a place to play archive stuff and have people like Wrighty on. Old POTP with BM etc. the DJs in boom are doing entirely new stuff. I do like boom but I think this is silly. Competition is good.

It’s like when the Radio 1 breakfast presenter changes and people moan “it’s not as good as *insert name of presenter when I was 13-21” We can’t live int past. Radio evolves.
