I see The Wire v Sopranos is trending. The Wire's fourth and final season is crap. Without The Sopranos, The Wire does not get made. Saying The Wire is better than The Sopranos is like saying Oasis are better than The Beatles

@o_reachtaire The Sopranos is the Everest that all other shows aspire to. The Wire is brilliant (and wraps up more neatly), but not quite as great for me. It’s also clear is that the actors influenced the writing and tone hugely over the 8 seasons. It made us look at the art form differently.

@o_reachtaire In fairness, from memory and as someone who didn’t get the BIA, the form was refreshingly straightforward and the bar for inclusion in the lottery pretty low. I think 8500 people were accepted as qualified to apply. Actual grantees selected from that pool randomly.

I am not against the artist grant but the people who get it will be people who are already very well connected and brilliant at filling out grant forms

@ConorTMcGrane @ciarancannon @Chris_Boardman +1. I wear a helmet because my wife and kids have way more uses for my paycheck than they do for my principled objections. But by any argument cyclists MUST wear them then so MUST motorists -and 4-point harnesses instead of seatbelts.

It still boggles my mind how on paper Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere looked to have all the ingredients it needed to be the next A Complete Unknown at the Oscars but then just crashed and burned

@AmerHil @mrbrianrowe I totally loved it too. I’m anyway a fan of The Boss, but JAL’s excellent performance in title role was trumped by astonishing supporting performance by both Stephen Graham and Jeremy String. Infinitely better than A Complete Unknown for me.

@mrbrianrowe Performances were great but the movie was ultimately was about depression, a major b.o. downer - had it focused on post-‘Nebraska’ Springsteen & the making of ‘Born in the USA’ it would’ve been a hit. Having said that, I did love the film.

@NiallQuinnLK73 interesting parallel with France’s cancellation of @parkrun because organisers of athletic events must get medical certs from all participants. I reckon the impact on their national mortality will be negative. I wear a helmet, but not under illusion it’ll save me from an artic.
