HS baseball parents in Ohio- most of your kids are going through tryouts this week. Just so you know, if your kid doesnt make the team, it wont be bc the coaches play favorites. It also wont be bc of some political nonsense you came up with to try to stir up a TV drama scenario in an attempt avoid the reality that your kid simply isnt as good as you think they are. On the flip side, your kid making the team this week doesnt mean their names will be on the left/top part of the lineup card on opening day. It simply means that right now, the coaches believe there is something your kid can provide that can help the program. Its up to them to show that theyre worthy of being in the lineup and believe it or not, they will have plenty of opportunities to do so. And just to be clear- opportunities≠game appearances. Just bc you as a parent arent there to see the opportunities doesnt mean they dont exist. And if your kid doesn't take advantage of those opportunities, dont be surprised when your inevitable conversation with the coach about playing time goes like "Well, the reason why your kid isnt getting on the field during games is bc theyre not executing well during practice."
