🚨 NEWS: AI art in my $135 million RPG?? Crimson Desert seems to contain lazy AI art... Is that a man? A horse? A centaur? 🤔 You tell me...

@Northern_Child It's just commentary, not an excuse. I don't have a horse in the race. I am not an apologist. I am making an observation, speculating, like you. It is all speculation. One man's art is another man's trash. Don't judge a book by it's cover... so on and so forth.

@nickybyloo Nah, excuses. They could do so much with it due to the different settings combination, pay attention to those details to increase immersion and storytelling, but they chose to make a mistake and use ai slop. It's not surrealism, it's slop.

Anonymous devs from Pearl Abyss have revealed the troubled development of Crimson Desert. The game began as an MMO prequel to Black Desert Online but was later converted to a single-player title after years of work. In its final stages, major leadership changes triggered significant story rewrites including renaming the protagonist and scrapping key mercenary elements. These last-minute shifts left the game with a disjointed narrative, mismatched features, and overly cluttered controls. The issues were only finalized shortly before launch.

@Northern_Child It's just hilarious. A meta-truth in a video game with fantasy medieval knights, dragons and mechanical robotics. The absurd, almost surrealists paintings is perfection.

@nickybyloo We would laugh at work like this if it was done by a human artist, but looking for excuses, when it's ai slop? Make it make sense

@Mirandalorians I have never played any action games with a controller. I've never had a console, barring my Atari 2600 in '84, but since '89, mouse and keyboard. CD does work well with mouse and keyboard, I am very comfortable with it. But your mileage may vary.

For Crimson Desert, what is the consensus on controller vs MnK?

@SpawnYaardReply It is my dream game, where the world feels alive and inviting. Not hold me back but letting me experiment and take my time. It is far from perfect, but that is the cost of freedom and an emergent open world.

@JayDook It's essentially a single player MMO. Massive world brimming with emergent activities, insane exploration, with a very generic and loose story just to move things along. I love it, but I think my BDO temperament prepared me for it, but it is more accessible and polished than BDO.

Crimson Desert seems to be hanging tough for the time being. I was told it was terrible by the internet 🤔. Maybe internet discourse is not all that consequential after all.

@KourraVT Some people saying "oh but then you can't play any modern game cause they all use some sort of AI" and like, sure, but we don't know that, so please, by all means have every game disclose exactly how much AI was used in their development so we can safely skip the slop then.

@AmbiguousZenith @bleeding_sun Every business makes decisions on a many different axes. Art is only one minor aspect in the grand scheme of things. Businesses do not work in a vacuum, all variables need to be factored in and weighted appropriately in context of operation, cost and market.

The fact that there’s so many public domain paintings they could’ve used for free, just continues proving how gen-AI is a unless tool that does nothing but strip away any sort of creativity and critical thinking.
GameRoll@GameRoll_

A Redditor has discovered an AI generated artwork in Crimson Desert. There are other posts that also claim to have found AI generated images throughout the game. It’s not even a “good” image. Pure slop, just look at the horses legs LMAO. Really disappointing.

@jake_theviking It's a single player MMO in the vein of BDO, but more polished and cohesive. It still has jank and it is brutal with letting you figure everything out yourself, but if you can handle all that, then it is amazing. Combat it very involved and demanding. The story is mid. I love it.

@AmbiguousZenith @bleeding_sun The cost benefit analysis will determine the company's business decisions and priorities, usually the path of least resistance, which can be at a net gain, but sometimes severely hamper public relations where they might be forced to reassess the model and realign.

@TerCayle @bleeding_sun It is a mainstream product within a capitalistic enterprise. It is always a balance of priority between supply and demand. Demand is relative to the human condition, and that can be anything from a McDonald's Big Mac to the auction of a Monet.

@nickybyloo @bleeding_sun Efficiency has no place in art. Glad this is being reflected in the game’s reviews and mass refunds. It’s like praising mcdonalds because they make more burgers than the local family owned joint .

I 100% understand why Crimson Desert would end up with mixed reviews. One minute you're having an incredibly satisfying emergent gameplay moment, the next you wander around a large marked-on-the-map area, and it's functionally empty. No quests, no conversations, nothing.

“Bro, remember the 2017 GOTY?” “Yeah bro? The GOAT” “Well, Crimson Desert basically copied it, added a ton of mechanics... 9 YEARS LATER. You should love it, bro. “Yeah bro but isn’t it just lazy? Too many games have already done this” "Dont ask questions and just coonsume bro"
Matheus Garcia | 🎮@Waynesep1
