🇳🇴 One last Row. Crown Prince HAAKON himself beat the drum while the Norwegian team and thousands of fans rowed together in unison. Norway left as legends. See you in 2030.

I’ve never seen anything like this in my life. I honestly can’t remember a time when Norwegians have been this united. The World Cup brought us all together. Cities, small towns, pubs, living rooms - everywhere people gathered to support our team. Tonight, our national heroes were honoured for what they achieved, and for giving us a summer of 2026 we’ll never forget. To those who think celebrating our team is “too much”: We don’t care! Not one bit! We’ll keep singing, keep celebrating, and keep dreaming. Bring on Euro 2028. Bring on World Cup 2030! 🇳🇴

@JohnSimpsonNews Don’t be daft John. The war and tragic loss of 907 lives, and successfully reclaiming The Falklands put a lid on it- not the outcome of a football match.

Argentina v England is important way beyond football. If Argentina wins tomorrow night, it’ll put real fire behind the demand for the Falklands. If England wins, that should put the lid on it — for now.

This will end badly… for Kemi Badenoch. Taking on parts of their own party makes a leader look ‘strong’ for around ten seconds…then the trouble begins…especially when a leader disciplines the sensible wing of her party.

"I don't think any previous leader of the Conservative Party would have removed the whip from someone for just disagreeing with them about strategy." Lord Gavin Barwell discusses his suspension from the Conservative Party with @bbcnickrobinson.

Towards the dying days of the last Conservative Government, with Rishi’s inability to take the right decisions to keep faith with the country on immigration, net zero insanity and eye wateringly high taxation levels , the public had had enough. At the last election the voters decided to put the Conservative Party into special measures and 251 Tory MPs, me included, were fired. Many who returned were elected with wafer thin majorities. Part of the problem was that the Party spoke from the right but governed from the left with the ratchet relentlessly pulling the country further leftwards closer to the miserable abyss we now find ourselves looking into. As Andy Burnham, the easy rider of politics, takes to the helm, his honeymoon could dissipate whilst walking down the aisle if he appoints former convicted fraudsters and tax avoiders to his cabinet and rewards net zero obsessives with plum jobs in order that they can turn their zealotry towards hammering entrepreneurs and those with a bit of money. Kemi is taking the right and difficult decisions to reshaping her Party in her fashion. The Conservative Party will always be a broad church but it should never tolerate those whose ambition is to hold the Party hostage to the ideology of another faith. Some seem to prefer to see the temple doomed to irrevocable collapse. The Party only exists by permission of those who have elected their candidates over centuries but it has no God given right to exist. Winning the trust of old and new voters will be essential and way more difficult in a fractionalised multi party system. Kemi is way more popular than the Party she leads and those who sit around her should take ownership of that. Carping from the sidelines or open rebellion from the hallowed privileged positions of a place on the red benches should not provide immunity from collective responsibility. You have to be full playing members of the team or get off the pitch! Some have forgotten this or have become sneeringly arrogant in their defiance of recognising that if they are not part of the solution then they are most likely part of the problem. The existential threat has been stayed thanks to firm management from the top. Blood, sweat and more than a few tears will be necessary to ensure the Conservative Party has the chance of replacing this shambolic Labour Government whenever Burnham decides to cut and run. The abyss is deep and unforgiving - but there is a route away from it. I ,for one, know which road my Party must take.

As a fellow Brexit Party MEP, Ann Widdecombe made a huge impression on me. She was unbiddable, unbuyable and uncompromising in speaking truth to power. I feel lucky to have known her, writes Claire Fox buff.ly/Eyngb1k
