The UK personal allowance has been frozen at £12,570 since April 2021.
That's the bit of your salary you keep before HMRC starts taking 20% off everything above it.
In 2021, £12,570 was a reasonable tax-free bracket. Inflation since then has been roughly 25% cumulative, and the price of basically everything you actually spend money on has gone up — energy, rent, food, council tax, fuel.
If the personal allowance had simply tracked inflation, it would now be closer to £15,700.
Instead, the threshold sits exactly where it did when Sunak set it five years ago, and is locked there until 2030.
The cost shows up everywhere except on your payslip. Every shop, every bill, every bit of your monthly budget feels tighter — while the threshold that's supposed to protect the first slice of your wages from tax just sits there at 2021 levels.
The official line is that they 'haven't raised taxes.' They haven't needed to. Inflation does the job for them, every single year, until 2030.

Why didn’t Farage just declare the £5m personal gift from Harborne which, a few months before becoming an MP in 2024?
The rules state new MPs "must register all their current financial interests, and any registrable benefits (other than earnings) received in the 12 months before their election within one month of their election".
The rules also say "both the possible motive of the giver and the use to which the gift is to be put should be considered", adding "if there is any doubt, the benefit should be registered".
Farage insists it was a purely personal gift and that he didn’t need to declare it

Let’s call this bull**** out TOGETHER
The 200,000 illegal migrants figure Farage is using is over several years and let’s remind ourselves how we got into this mess in the first place - BREXIT
And now in threatening to punish those parts of the country where people don’t vote his way the Reform party leader is betraying the basic principles of democracy - its shameless and grotesque bullying which shows nothing but contempt for voters

Nigel Farage plays the victim once again over the undisclosed £5m ‘gift’ by crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne.
If there is nothing to hide why is he bothered that it has been released and why take legal advice to avoid declaring it?

The Nigel Farage Guide to Being a Working-Class Hero
Step 1: Be born to a City stockbroker.
Step 2: Attend Dulwich College, fees currently £53,000 a year.
Step 3: Skip university. Become a City commodities trader instead.
Step 4: Run one of your metal broking firms into insolvency.
Step 5: Get elected to the European Parliament. Spend the next 21 years drawing a salary from the institution you're paid to dismantle.
Step 6: Claim £15,500 a year in expenses for an office your party was given rent-free.
Step 7: Put your wife on the EU parliamentary payroll. Take her off only when the rules force you to.
Step 8: Get investigated by the EU's anti-fraud office. Eventually have half your MEP salary docked to repay misused public funds.
Step 9: Throw a Brexit victory party at the Ritz. Decry the "professional political class" to a room of millionaires.
Step 10: Take £450,000 in personal gifts from Arron Banks. House. Car. Lifestyle.
Step 11: Take £5 million, undisclosed, from a Bangkok-based crypto billionaire. Days later, announce you're standing for parliament after all.
Step 12: Win Clacton. Take the £93,904 MP salary. Add £1.2 million a year from GB News at £2,300 an hour. Become the highest-earning MP in the House of Commons.
Step 13: Speak in parliament fewer times than any other party leader. Fly to America at least nine times in your first year. Refuse to hold in-person constituency surgeries. Holiday in France while parliament is sitting.
Step 14: Tell the working class you're one of them. Tell them to vote against their own interests, over and over again.
Pint, mate?

Conveniently everyone in this country has very short memories about security clearance concerns surrounding @BorisJohnson appointment as Foreign Secretary.
Meeting with Former KGB Agent: In 2022, it was revealed that Johnson, while serving as Foreign Secretary in 2018, attended a party in Italy hosted by former KGB agent Alexander Lebedev without officials present. This meeting occurred after a NATO meeting centered on Russia, leading to accusations of a "complete disregard for basic national security".
Restricted Intelligence Access: During his tenure as Foreign Secretary (2016–2018), Downing Street under Theresa May reportedly attempted to withhold sensitive intelligence from Johnson due to concerns within the intelligence community regarding his ability to keep information confidential. Security officials were "wary" of sharing information with him.
Use of Private Communication: Johnson and several ministers were accused of breaching national security guidance by using personal email accounts and phones for government business.
Peerage for Evgeny Lebedev: Concerns were raised regarding Johnson's decision to grant a peerage to Evgeny Lebedev, son of Alexander Lebedev, in 2020, despite security advice.
Post-Office Lobbying (The "Boris Files"): Leaked documents from 2025 indicated that after leaving office, Johnson potentially misused his former contacts for personal financial gain, including lobbying senior Saudi officials and meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, which raised concerns about the blurring of private business and national security.
Breach of Ethics Rules: A 2025 investigation found that Johnson breached rules regarding the misuse of political contacts after leaving office and failed to cooperate with the investigation.
People in this country attack the wrong targets. And forget the scandals that went on before this @UKLabour Government was elected to power and then gets unwarranted and sinister attacks from a conspiracy on both the left and right.

8 lines every flag-shagging plastic “patriot” has in their playbook
1.“I want my country back” - From what? You voted for the party that ran it for 14 years.
2.“Our grandads didn’t fight for this” - Your grandads would be ashamed that you can’t find Normandy on a map. They fought with Poles, Sikhs, Gurkhas, and West Indians beside them. They’d have more in common with the immigrants you hate than plastic patriots sharing memes about them.
3.“This isn’t the Britain I grew up in” - Correct. It has lower crime, longer life expectancy, and better healthcare than the 1970s you’re romanticising. You just don’t remember the power cuts and three-day weeks.
4.“Britain is broken” - The most unpatriotic sentence in the English language, repeated daily by people say they love their country.
5. “We’re full” - The Netherlands has twice the population density and somehow manages. The UK is not full. It’s just had 14 years of no housebuilding and you need someone darker than you to blame for it.
6.“We look after our own first” - You vote for parties that cut disability benefits, froze nurses’ pay, gave tax breaks to the rich and closed Sure Start centres. You don’t look after anyone.
7.“Stop the boats” - The Tories spent £700 million on Rwanda to deport four people. Zero boats were stopped. You cheered anyway.
8.“Starmer is a traitor” - The man prosecuted terrorists, paedophile rings, and war criminals as DPP. You import American culture war propaganda from people who openly despise our allies, trash your own country 24/7, and follow convicted fraudsters who lied about where they were born. The only ones treacherously trashing Britain’s reputation daily are you.
