Contrarian take: TurboTax is Good, Actually. You can pay 10-100x more for a professional to do your taxes, and have both a WORSE user experience and WORSE tax outcomes. TurboTax is VERY well-written software. Integrates with everything. Slurps up any PDF. Shows you what you’ve already done and what’s coming up. Saves your work on every step. Let’s you skip stuff and come back later. Cross-checks all your work. Suggests courses of action you could advantageously take. Aggressively up to date on new tax rules. Should the tax code be simpler? Yes. Should most people be able to file with no work? Yes. But given that we have a complex tax system that intends to incentivize specific behaviors, I have a hard time imagining better software for navigating that than TurboTax.

@martin_casado Yes, same here. But models do learn from books (among other sources), so we still need the "sources of truth" somewhere along the chain.

I have incredibly mixed feelings that I spend more time learning from AI than books these days. I just find learning from a model to be deeper, broader, more efficient and more engaging.
