@deedydas As a Google engineer, let me say that this is not representative of a typical Google engineer. This person is clearly an outlier. The AI momentum at Google is, without a doubt, very high.

Google Senior Staff Engineer to me: “Yeah, I have no clue what Claude Code / Codex is but I hear it’s all the rage. No, I don’t really care, I just need GOOG to hit $400 and keep this job for 2-3 more years so I can retire!”

Once again, I am pounding the table on using Gemini to analyze your genes. Get a basic Ancestry DNA test, opt into their privacy options, and once you get your results login and download your "raw DNA file" Ask Gemini to give you the identifiers to search for high impact genes and then use it to understand your own data and suggest interventions for the ones with a detrimental impact It's legitimately life changing

Healthcare advances due to AI is what I'm most looking forward to. Better understanding of disease and aging, better drug discovery and prevention protocols etc., is the actual killer "app" of AI.
Sundar Pichai@sundarpichai

An exciting milestone for AI in science: Our C2S-Scale 27B foundation model, built with @Yale and based on Gemma, generated a novel hypothesis about cancer cellular behavior, which scientists experimentally validated in living cells.  With more preclinical and clinical tests, this discovery may reveal a promising new pathway for developing therapies to fight cancer.

There is a need for an AI influencer that does honest in-depth real-use review of new models. Instead of the “this is insane, 10 ways how kimi k2 is changing the world.” Maybe they exist?

@GeminiApp now lets you transform photos into eight-second videos using Veo 3. Rolling out now. Android, iOS, Web. Global availability. Still experimental, but we wanted our Pro and Ultra members to try it first! It’s really fun to take kindergarten artwork and make it come to life *with sound* :) 🧵

@JorgeO But Intuit also lobbies the government to keep the tax code complex. It's similar to how large companies lobby for regulation, since it gives them a moat.

Contrarian take: TurboTax is Good, Actually. You can pay 10-100x more for a professional to do your taxes, and have both a WORSE user experience and WORSE tax outcomes. TurboTax is VERY well-written software. Integrates with everything. Slurps up any PDF. Shows you what you’ve already done and what’s coming up. Saves your work on every step. Let’s you skip stuff and come back later. Cross-checks all your work. Suggests courses of action you could advantageously take. Aggressively up to date on new tax rules. Should the tax code be simpler? Yes. Should most people be able to file with no work? Yes. But given that we have a complex tax system that intends to incentivize specific behaviors, I have a hard time imagining better software for navigating that than TurboTax.
villi@villi

Turbo Tax should not exist as a company as tax preparation and filing should be automatic for 90% of filers. I think now is the time to go after them and I would love to talk to any founder that is working on a consumer tax filing product.

@martin_casado Yes, same here. But models do learn from books (among other sources), so we still need the "sources of truth" somewhere along the chain.

I have incredibly mixed feelings that I spend more time learning from AI than books these days. I just find learning from a model to be deeper, broader, more efficient and more engaging.
