Here's how to get a Chinese name (for foreigners): 1. Phonetic: Sound out your English name in Mandarin syllables (e.g., "John" → "Yuēhàn" 约翰). 2. Meaningful: Pick characters with positive vibes (beauty, strength, nature) that match the sound. 3. Tools: Use free sites like "Chinese Name Translator" or apps (Pleco, Behind the Name). Or tell me your name + gender/birth year for a custom suggestion! What's yours? I'll help generate one.

I’m not sharing this as the CEO of Eternal, but as a fellow human, curious enough to follow a strange thread. A thread I can’t keep with myself any longer. It’s open-source, backed by science, and shared with you as part of our common quest for scientific progress on human longevity. Newton gave us a word for it. Einstein said it bends spacetime. I am saying gravity shortens lifespan.  Read on, and tell me what you think.

I have worked at Meru as founding CTO between 2007 and 2016, and then as CEO from 2017 to 2019. The comparison of Meru with poorly governed companies like BluSmart and Kingfisher is unprofessional and in poor taste. Meru not just pioneered the concept of tech enabled ride hailing service in India and helped move the industry from unorganised to organised sector, it had the highest governance standards across any blue chip company. Harvard, ISB had done a case study on Meru, it was granted multiple US patents for innovative tech and algorithms and was majority owned by True North, India’s premierPE firm. Saying that it was built on unsustainable business model is showcasing writer’s ignorance. Meru had raised only $53 million in dollar terms all throughout it’s existence but turned EBIDTA profitable from year 2 of operation and posted positive PAT in year 5, served more than 2 crore customers and more than a lakh drivers. The only reason for Meru’s downturn was $5 billion poured by VCs between 2013 and 2016 in Ola and Uber which gave nearly free rides to consumers and guaranteed 3K - 7K daily incentives to drivers to ensure they accept every trip. While this expanded the market in the short term, it caused such fundamental damage to the industry profitability that Ola posted first EBIDTA profit after 14 years and not a single rupee of PAT after ₹20,000 crosses of cumulative losses. Uber posted their first profit globally after 14 years. Meru filed dozens of cases with CCI, high courts and Supreme Court against the predatory pricing but they said it is good for the consumer and let all the competition including Meru die. (Not just Meru but all other companies like Easy cabs , Mega cabs, Tab cab, Sky Cabs, Fasttrack and many more. Some of them had raised even more capital than Meru). Now today customers are left without much choice, driver refusals, bad cabs and constant surge pricing.

H100 GPU prices are insanely expensive. If you are an AI startup or looking for cheap H100 GPU access, check the Explorer Tier at Nebius. It's $1.50 per one H100 GPU-hour (for the first 1,000 hours each month). That's not a typo. It's only $1.50 per hour! No upfront commitments. To put this in perspective, if you run an instance for a month and never turn it off, you'll only pay $1,080 (720 hours x $1.50). You can access your instances through their cloud console without waiting lists, phone calls, or manual approvals. And you can provision them immediately: as soon as you create an instance, your GPU will be ready to go. This is insanely cheap, and you should check it out if you are looking to fine-tune models, run experiments, or do some production testing. More details:

A new chapter begins today. In view of the various challenges and opportunities facing us, including recent major developments in AI, it has been decided that it is best that I should focus full time on R&D initiatives, along with pursuing my personal rural development mission. I will step down as CEO of Zoho Corp and take a new role as Chief Scientist, responsible for deep R&D initiatives. Our co-founder Shailesh Kumar Davey will serve as our new group CEO. Our co-founder Tony Thomas will lead Zoho US. Rajesh Ganesan will lead our ManageEngine division and Mani Vembu will lead the Zoho.com division. The future of our company entirely depends on how well we navigate the R&D challenge and I am looking forward to my new assignment with energy and vigor. I am also very happy to get back to hands on technical work. 🙏

Hoping that this “pronoun illness” doesn’t reach India. Many “big city schools” in India are now teaching it to kids. Also see many CVs with pronouns these days. Need to know where to draw the line in following the west blindly!

Expect more vitriol for India as world’s most populous country growing at the fastest pace leaving country after country behind. Conveniently club Pakistan, growing at 1% with India, growing at 8% under ‘South Asia’ umbrella. ft.com/content/518b12…
