A SRI LANKAN TAMIL WOMAN WAS KILLED WHILE HER FRIEND ESCAPED WITH INJURIES, AFTER A CAR RAMMED ON HER TWO-WHEELER AT KOYAMBEDU An 18-year-old woman was killed, and her 17-year-old friend sustained serious injuries after a car rammed into their two-wheeler near the Koyambedu flyover in Chennai late on Saturday night. Police registered a murder case, arrested three men and launched a search for other suspects who remain absconding. The incident occurred on the road leading from Koyambedu towards Thirumangalam beneath the Koyambedu flyover. Personnel from the CMBT Police Station rushed to the spot after receiving information about the collision. Police found that one of the women travelling on the two-wheeler had died at the scene. The other victim, a 17-year-old girl, suffered serious injuries and was admitted to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital after being transported in an 108 ambulance. The deceased was identified as Yancy, 18, a native of Villupuram district. Preliminary investigation revealed that Yancy, her injured friend and a group of their acquaintances had visited a private bar in the Koyambedu area on Saturday night. According to police, a verbal altercation broke out inside the bar between Yancy's group and another group of men. The dispute escalated into a physical confrontation before bar bouncers intervened and escorted both groups out of the premises. Investigators said the two groups again became involved in an argument near a shop outside the bar. Bouncers intervened a second time and dispersed them. Later, Yancy and her friends left the area on two two-wheelers and travelled towards Thirumangalam. The rival group followed in a car along the same route. During the journey, one of Yancy's associates reportedly threw a stone at the car. Police said the occupants of the car then chased the two-wheelers. The car subsequently rammed into the two-wheeler carrying Yancy and her friend, causing both riders to be thrown onto the road. Yancy died from her injuries, while her friend was critically injured. The occupants of the car fled the scene after the incident. Based on the findings of the investigation, K-11 CMBT police registered a case under the charge of murder and began efforts to identify and apprehend those involved. Police arrested Balaguru, 21, of Arumbakkam; Joshua, 19, of Choolaimedu; and Kishorkumar, 19, of Nerkundram. The car used in the offence was seized. A special police team has been formed to trace and arrest other suspects believed to have been involved in the incident.
