@MentalHealthCop @asifamhp It was made to a specific hospital. Service user remained in family home with ASWs present 24/7. Review and med changes by psychiatrist but not optimum treatment.

@nismum @asifamhp Is that legal?! - my understanding of the NI Order was that an application still had to be made to a specific hospital and they must be in agreement to receive the patient. So where, for example, did the person stay for 8 days? - genuinely interested.

@asifamhp @MentalHealthCop Thanks. We often sign form to admit with no bed. Recently we waited 8 days with a service user until bed was made available. Reassessed twice and then continuation form used. 24 hour a day coverage by ASWs. Good to catch up with colleagues and look at differences in practice

@nismum @MentalHealthCop >available to them. Most MHAAs (in the community) occur without the AMHP/ASW knowing if there is a bed available. Indeed most MHAAs (2/3rds) do not end with detention✔️ Sorry for the long answer. But this stuff is more complicated & legal - than most people think/imagine.

@asifamhp @MentalHealthCop Mindful it's different legislation. We don't have the option of detaining to ED.

@asifamhp @MentalHealthCop Can I check something? I'm in NI so different legislation. Under MHA if there's no bed you can't section? I've started to see a trend emerging here of no bed, not assessing and I've always held there is a legal obligation to assess no matter the resource issue. 1/1

This is so obvious. We need to work out how to recognise and challenge toxic cultures. People protect people not policy, not lots of paperwork. People need supported to speak up

We're not going to make progress in adult safeguarding until we are sure toxic cultures are uncovered and challenged and that people feel safe to speak up
