If this statement is true, it is astonishing arrogance. I have said this before and I will say it again: The tunnel road project is a millionaire’s project for the benefit of millionaires. The ordinary Bengalurean pays for it through taxes, loses public money that should have gone to buses and Metro, and is then told not to use it if he cannot pay the toll. Nothing captures elitism better. Bengaluru needs public transport, not private luxury corridors. We are fighting against this in the court, we will fight it out on the streets as well.

Ishan Kishan is a terrific cricketer who has just essayed an amazing international comeback. He has also made almost a 100 crores just from IPL fees, not counting international duty and endorsements. This cheque is not a 100th of what he has already made and he's not the greedy sort. So one can only assume this was literally a payout for a photo-op with him to ensure that the others in the picture got into the papers and all over social media. Obviously, why spend one crore of government money on creating facilities or training centres or bankrolling poor athletes when you can instead use it to create a photo op by paying the one of the few athletes from your state who really does not need the money! And that's why sport in India is where it is.

Lets get this straight. Unless its IIMs, IITs, ISB, AIIMS and some of the few tier 1 colleges in India, top merit students from Karnataka or Tamilnadu dont have the sheer necessity to migrate outside their home state. They have options to join top Engineering and Medical colleges inside their state. Once they are done with their Medicine or Engineering or higher studies, they dont have a necessity to migrate outside their homestate for jobs. Thats how self sufficient these states are. Every state in India must become self sufficient. Thats what real nationwide progress looks like.
