We got feedback on GPT‑5.1 from a handful of companies and developers. Here are their early impressions:

America is in debt due to incentives. Want more votes, spend = give people money, project over budget add a tax. If we fired people for missing budgets or say shutting down government for weeks. Like we do in the commercial sector. I’m pretty sure we’d be able to stay out of debt for the most part.

Let me share a little secret: America doesn't have $38 trillion in debt because Americans get Social Security and Medicare. It's because billionaires and millionaires aren't paying their fair share in taxes. It's that simple.

As a Musk biographer, I told you all he was going mad—the cause being a combination of depression, stress, med misuse and illicit use of illegal drugs. His Twitter feed is a testament to this derangement. Someone who cares about him needs to take him off the internet permanently.

FROM MAGA TO CHINA Here are four things MAGA is getting wrong, and why it's handing over the world to China. (1) First, MAGA correctly understands that America’s economic position is in decline but thinks this is due to economic competition itself, rather than lack of competitiveness. (2) Second, MAGA also understands that the US has wasted trillions abroad in foreign wars, but thinks the problem is global leadership itself rather than poor leadership. (3) Third, MAGA knows that their Blue American enemies have allies abroad, but has incorrectly overreacted to this by treating every non-Red-American as an enemy. (4) Fourth, MAGA sees the billions of dollars flowing from the US to foreign recipients, but isn't grasping that the US can only print those dollars in the first place so long as it's the hub of a global empire. When you put these together you can both understand MAGA's actions and understand why they will not lead to the intended result. Basically: MAGA is hyperfocused on cutting off any apparent flow of funds from Red Americans to Blue Americans and non-Americans. And they only have ~500 days in power. So they're trying to quickly shut off imports, close down institutions, and exit all wars. OK. Except the reason the imports exist in the first place is because US products aren't competitive relative to Chinese products (or Fed printing). The reason those institutions exist is because the US set them up to run the world. And the reason those wars are happening is not because of American leadership per se, but because of the absence of good leadership. If you shut all of that down at once — if you abandon global competition and global leadership — you shut down American Empire, and with it the ability to print money. And then everyone in that empire has a very bad time.

I agree that most of these have downward pressure combined with austerity policies. The real question is what happens as it forces reciprocal tariff renegotiations with those who tariff the US. Medium term this may end of being closer to a balance of trade which should be a net positive impact.

Do I think Trump is leading us into a recession through his tariffs, posturing and erratic leadership? Yes. Yes I do.

@PalmerLuckey Last tip. Metadata creation is the way. Have an ontology layer, topic meta etc. Remember all data is time series, so add consideration for that too

Write a parser to turn them all into .md files, add meta data, link images etc the same way or just had a model describe the image. Add search function ideally structured not vector, attach to LLM and capture feedback. Approach 2. Place add md files into obsidian and create an obsidian MCP.

What is currently the best solution for turning a large collections of personal notes and chats into an LLM-interrogable dataset? It seems like most off-the-shelf options can't keep context at scale.

@PalmerLuckey Also anyone saying use long context doesn’t understand context windows, how these are being managed (long/short term memory, rolling windows, summarization or any of the other hacks to say context is unlimited) or training for most models. Usable context is at best 128k

Politics aside. Finally an AI pov that is connected to reality. This isn’t the first disruptive innovation, but it could have been the one that the collective hive mind crippled before it had a chance. Time for less hypotheticals and more hard work on real code. LFG

Deepseek is cool, highly unlikely their numbers are true, regardless two things happened last week. 1 - Towards the end of last year most folks had resigned to the fact that frontier innovation could only come from those with huge teams and unlimited compute. Today there's probably 1000 new teams fired up trying to do something new. 2 - This only pushes forward the OpenAI, Google, Meta, Anthropic towards faster releases. Over the last two months we've watched evidence of Claude throttling context windows, OpenAI making similar adjustments without changing pricing or really informing customers. While I get the need for them to get to profitability, this isn't cool. Models like Deepseek, Qwen and others keep the ecosystem honest. Last note on the Deepseek topic. We would never place a foreign model anywhere near production, or dev for that matter. Even a 1% risk of of it invoking something is a non-starter for us. Foreign actors have continued to show impact with upstream attacks and IMO this is a pretty good way to do that. That being said the Chinese research papers are always good to read. Definitely add them to your reading list.
