Bill 101 was rushed through and passed today. Here is how Peel MPPs voted. The outcome of 101 will be higher costs and reduced supports and resources, with an overhaul that doesn't actually solve the problems we're facing in education. This isn't for our kids. #onted #onpoli

If passed, Bill 101 will TAKE money out of school boards by preventing them from participating in associations. This year @OPSBA saved PDSB net $702,900 through service/resource coordination. That's the cost of 10 EAs. I ask all Peel MPPs to vote against 101. #onted #mississauga

📢📢📢 255,000 teachers and education workers unite in province-wide action this week! On April 29, more than 255,000 #ETFO, @AEFO_ON_CA, @OECTAProv, @osbcucscso, and @osstf members will participate in a Province-wide Day of Action. This coordinated effort represents a powerful show of unity among Ontario’s teachers and education workers at a time when publicly funded education continues to face significant challenges. Teachers and education workers will come together to visually signal their support and demand for investments in publicly funded education. Across Ontario, union members will wear red and purple as part of the Red for Ed and Power of Purple movements. This collective action will demonstrate that teachers and education workers are united in calling for improved learning and working conditions in our schools and universities. Momentum is building. We invite families and other community allies to join us in calling for meaningful investment and a genuine commitment to student success and well-being. The Minister's conduct towards education stakeholders is a draconian display of power. We are deeply concerned that the current actions and decisions of this government aim to undermine and exclude the voices of educators and education workers in #onted.

We don’t have a classroom management problem. We have an emotional regulation crisis that teachers are being asked to handle. Somehow, “classroom management” has turned into: • de-escalating trauma • supporting anxiety and depression • calming panic attacks • being the counselor, social worker, and crisis team • carrying emotional loads no one sees And then we remove the very things that help like recess, movement, art, play, connection. Teachers aren’t trained for that. They shouldn’t have to be. Classroom management is about relationships, structure, routines, and connection. It was never meant to replace what families, communities, and systems failed to provide. And until we stop offloading every societal failure onto schools, teachers will keep drowning under expectations no human can meet.

If You Went to Public School in the Late 1970s or 1980s… You Survived This “10 things that were totally normal back then, that would absolutely never fly today” 1. Student AND Teacher Smoking Lounges Yes. Smoking lounges. For students. And teachers. “Can I bum a light?” was something you heard before homeroom (teacher to student or student to teacher). Ashtrays everywhere (many made in art or shop class). Nobody blinked. 2. The Ditto Machine Smell Worksheets came out warm, purple, and slightly damp. The first thing everyone did was inhale. That smell still lives rent-free in our brains. 3. Dodgeball With Zero Mercy This wasn’t friendly dodgeball. This was survival dodgeball. Athletes hunted. Everyone else learned fear and strategy. Teachers watched like this was character development. 4. Red Rover “Red Rover, Red Rover, send the smallest kid right over.” Kids locked arms. Someone flew. Someone cried. No ice packs. No paperwork. No phone calls home. Just recess. 5. Games With Wildly Violent Names “Kill the Carrier” “Bombardment” No one questioned the language or the brutality. You lined up and threw as hard as possible and prayed that you would survive. 6. Community Urinals No stalls. No dividers. Just a long porcelain trough. Privacy was not a concept. Eye contact avoidance became a life skill. Urine spray and mist everywhere. 7. Cafeteria Meals That Defied Nutrition (5,000 calorie delicacy) Square pizza. Mystery meat. Chocolate milk every day. Cake slabs for dessert. Calories unknown. Portions massive. Lunch ladies served food like they were fueling farmhands. “Want seconds?” was the nutrition plan. 8. Calling Out Grades Aloud Teachers didn’t quietly return tests. They announced grades. Out loud. With facial expressions and attitude. 9. Writing Names on the Board as Punishment Misbehave and your name went on the board. Then came the check marks. Circles. Underlines. Everyone watched your disciplinary arc unfold in real time. Shame was motivational (or was it). 10. Notes Sent Home With No Filter “Doesn’t apply himself.” “Talks too much.” “Is a distraction.” “Won’t be college material.” Written in red pen. Sent straight home. No context. No cushioning. If you remember these… You’re not old. You’re experienced. Which ones resonate? What did we miss?

The problem is not the kids. It’s cuts to funding to support the needs of the kids. Community mental health. EAs. Special education and ESL teachers. OT. PT. CYW. Classroom teachers are not therapists or specialists. Inclusion without support is abandonment. #OntEd

Depression is,nt just sadness. It's hating yourself. Having no motivation to do ANYTHING. Never being able to sleep. Struggling to get out of bed. Knowing you have stuff to do, But can't do it. Ignoring hunger. Forgetting about self care. Depression isn't always sadness.

Every time I see beer in a corner store I'll think of what it cost us to have it *14 months early*, and what we could have spent that billion dollars on instead. - nurses - teachers, EAs - autism program - care for seniors - Science Centre - public infrastructure #onpoli

Our government is taking action, creating a new Science Centre and an iconic Ontario Place that will be enjoyed by all, not only a few. (2/2)

It is no surprise to see the opposition stand in the way of a new Science Centre and rebuilt Ontario Place. If they had their way, the Science Centre and Ontario Place would continue to be neglected and fall further into disrepair. (1/2)

BREAKING: Ford gov has taken over $1.3 billion out of public education funding & deliberately hid the cuts under a "Planned Provision" item! This means Ford has cut $1500 per student in #OntEd funding since 2018. Really shows their commitment to transparency 😡 #OSSTF #OnPoli

Because I am a sucker for punishment, as soon as Canada's Greatest Song ends in a few weeks we will begin our next poll series: Canada's Favourite TV Show. Make your suggestions! I want a healthy mix of shows from across Canada. French-Canadian, children's, miniseries, docu-series, etc. The requirement is the show has to be filmed in Canada, as a Canadian production with mostly Canadian actors. American productions that were filmed in Canada, like The X-Files, won't qualify. Yes, I know that this has already been done by Justin McElroy a few years ago. Not trying to copy that, just enjoy creating these polls and starting dialogue among my followers. Contest will begin around May 21.
