11 years ago today, Sturgill Simpson released "Metamodern Sounds in Country Music," pushing the boundaries of country music into psychedelia, rock, and folk.

An important piece from Jeff Arbus, Serena Lee-Segal and Lauren Frenkel; members and executives of CUPE and OPSEU pushing back against antisemitic rot and discrimination within their unions “Enough is enough. Workers are pushing back. There are at least two unions facing charges of failure to represent or of outright discrimination against select groups of their own members – the direct result of union leaders failing to lead or rejecting offers to work toward a solution. It should not have come to this, but the responsibility lies squarely at the feet of elected union leaders. It is heartbreaking for these members, who believe in the union promise, to find no option but to take legal action against their own unions. But one can only have their lived experiences gaslit for so long. One can only be rejected, marginalized and discriminated against for so long.” OPINION: Union leaders must abandon divisive, self-serving politics torontosun.com/opinion/column…

Lot of "all Convoy people are Nazis" people doing a "probably just a small minority" re: Mount Sinai. It's not subtle!

Last night, I was joined by NDP colleagues to light the menorah on the fifth day of Hanukkah. Thanks to MP Anthony Housefather and Hon. Ya’ara Saks for extending this invitation and for hosting "Hanukkah on the Hill." Chag sameach!

This is Charles Best and Frederick Banting. They were Canadian scientists that won the Nobel Prize for the discovery of insulin in 1923. Banting was 32 when he received the Nobel Prize and he chose to share half the prize money with Best who was his assistant and just 24 years old at the time. Banting refused to put his name on the patent and instead sold it to the University of Toronto for $1. He thought it was unethical to profit from a discovery that would save millions of lives. "Insulin belongs to the world, not to me," he said. Unfortunately, the drug today has been subjected to price gouging by pharmaceutical companies with the average price per month rising to $450 in 2016.

When the #Eagles play the #Seahawks in a few weeks, this would be the best uniform matchup in #NFL history if they do it. Please make it happen @Eagles @Seahawks 🙏🏻

Vikings fans learn early that nothing’s going to be easy in this life. This kid is 12 and he’s obviously already seen enough traumatic shit to be as jaded as your average divorced 51-year-old. 94% chance that he poured a Scotch right after this and muttered “Goddamn Steelers.”

Perhaps the most unlikely and unexpected record in the history of recorded music, the Grateful Dead have tied Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley with the most Top 40 albums in music history with the new Dave's Picks Vol. 48 debuting at #33. sfchronicle.com/entertainment/…
