rf kuang was never some grand anticolonial author but her prose is genuinely garbage as it is. i really encourage people to read anticolonial texts by nkrumah, ceisare, ghandy, etc, instead of replacing the hard work of reading anticolonial theory with slop YA fantasy

@danylanzhou very telling how even fans of her series say they struggled to get through her work & only praise the "tragedy" in her work; imho she only uses the suffering of minorities & systemic colorism as shock value, there is no subversive in her text and its just a pain to get through
