i don't subscribe to the idea that you necessarily must be an expert in something to critique it. If you feel something is not quite right, that's valid! the next step is noticing or trying to get specific as to why it feels off, what might be causing it. And then, try 20 more iterations and notice when it starts to feel better or worse.

@joshpuckett @somanna_bu but if i lack the required experience i won’t know what to critique, no? plus, sometimes i can feel that something is bad / not there yet, but can’t exactly pinpoint why, or what to improve

@somanna_bu yes; you just do the same things with yourself rather than a team. Make → critique → refine → critique... 🔁

Building a Lightbox library for React ✨ Should it support the swipe to close gesture on trackpad? It’s kinda cool and feels great but most users will probably never figure it out.🤔

posting on x has done more for my career than graduating university, living in london, attending tech events, hanging out with hni, and visiting sf multiple times if i have one career regret, it’s not posting more

Yup the Lightbox component primitives I’m building will support zoom gestures that you know from apps like Messenger or iMessage: - double tap to zoom in and out - pinch to zoom, pan to move - bounce-back when zoom limits are reached Here’s a demo running on iOS Safari
Ozgur Ozer@ozgrozer

@artur_bien @radix_ui @shadcn so smooth. i'd use it. not sure it has but needs a zoom in/out feature for large images.

@adelbucetta you would def need a more complex selector / css rule, or if it's too complex just handle it with js

@nonzeroexitcode but the real question is what happens when you have nested menus with multiple hover states does this solution scale or do you need something more robust to handle complexity?

this effect can be achieved using only css by combining the :has() and :not() pseudo-classes: `.menu:has(.item:hover) .item:not(:hover) { filter: blur(8px); }` which simply means: when a menu has a hovered item, blur every item inside it that isn't being hovered

I stopped being so `:𝚑𝚊𝚜()` happy, as fun as it is to use. The parent wastes effort deriving the same unchanged condition every time the descendent hover state changes. .𝚖𝚎𝚗𝚞:𝚑𝚘𝚟𝚎𝚛 > .𝚒𝚝𝚎𝚖:𝚗𝚘𝚝(:𝚑𝚘𝚟𝚎𝚛) { 𝚏𝚒𝚕𝚝𝚎𝚛: 𝚋𝚕𝚞𝚛(𝟾𝚙𝚡); } This flags from the parent and saves the subtree rescan. Lame, I know ... but in complicated or busy layouts, it really makes a difference.

@bartbak_ yes completely fair! it was just quick experiment do demonstrate the effect, but in hindsight a simple color change would have been better lol

@nonzeroexitcode Too disturbing? Imo they look much better when you don't blur them. You have a well balanced set of icons and type.

sad that i don't use these nearly as much as I should, since they are widely supported now eg this video is from my old-old portfolio where I was doing it with react because didn't know any better lol btw here is a wonderful writeup on how to use it joshwcomeau.com/css/has/

Training LoRAs with Krea 2 on @fal has been the most fun I've had in a while. Here are a few examples. In the next few days, I'll be releasing what is probably the largest public Style LoRA library built with Krea 2.
