I imagine it must be exhausting for children to experience their childhood for a perceived audience, learning to perform domesticity to strangers, waiting for a parent to set up the tripod, move to a different location, stand still as they brush your hair for the camera

Rachel, Maker of Wild Sparrow Naturals
When we learned of our daughter’s condition in utero, our OB listened to the information we brought to him because he admitted it was hard to keep up with all the new research with their work schedules. A practicing physician simply cannot read all of the papers that come out for every possible condition. My friend has had years of recurring health problems and wrote her own white paper on her condition based on doing her own genetic testing and putting pieces together. She meets with a team of researchers in Spain next month because they want to discuss the topic with her. To act like the process of science, learning and discovering and making connections, is something you can only do if you are given the title of “world’s top scientist and doctor” is not only smug and wrong, but dangerous, because it tells people they have no agency to learn and no power to figure things out especially when it affects the health of themselves and their family members. A true “scientist” will want to hear new information regardless of who it comes from and is humble enough to know that they themselves don’t have all the answers either.
