I still don’t understand why so many people are against digital id. I’m a big proponent of privacy but arguably the current way of doing is worse if you actually care about it. Scattered databases in an opaque government blob are more likely to be hacked/leaked so we have no idea who has access to what right now.

@petergyang I have the opposite view. In 20 years everyone will be talking about great stuff coming out of DeepMind in the areas of science research and what not and Google will be like HP or Dell - a brand with great history and middle-of-the-field present.

I feel like Google is going to win consumer AI.
It’s the only US lab that’s building video models and consumers love video (e.g., TikTok / YouTube is far more popular than text based platforms).
The only real competition is Seedance and other video models that don’t care about copyright?

So apparently you can have best of both worlds: great models, tools AND not destroying the world in the process. Which used to be sort of a scary-story but with Mythos it’s clear that has this been released Meta-style for everyone to get clout and raise money, we’d have Russian/Chinese/North Korean hackers wreaking havoc these days.

True, but before there was an implication that Anthropic doesn’t let users enjoy true SOTA level models due to their obsession with safety. That’s clearly not the case, every Claude release is noticeably better, and even on product side they are very active to the point that OpenAI is playing catch-up with claude code and cowork.

Am I the only one disappointed by this news?
I get it. Anthropic is the new superstar, so of course they want top talent.
But they're so safety captured, they can't seem to get out of their own way on some issues.
I kinda felt like Andrej was better than this.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that he's getting back in the arena and, ultimately, humanity will be better for it.
But I also wouldn't be surprised if his tenure is short due to how ideologically captured Anthropic is.

All my Apple TV purchased movies disappeared from my library. They still show up in the purchase history. I still have mail receipt. But they absolutely won’t show up in the library itself. And movie page ask for purchase. Insane.

The problem here is that Liquid Glass is incompatible with internal design systems of most (all?) companies. Design teams develop their own language, specs for materials & motions to be used across all platforms and it’s hard to convince them to have this one platform to look noticeably different.

Almost a year since Apple dropped Liquid Glass and somehow only indie devs adopted it. Meanwhile Meta, Google, and X are still shipping the same recycled UI from years ago. Indie devs shipped in weeks. Crazy how small teams care more about platform craftsmanship than the companies dominating the App Store.

It is time for the United States Postal Service to ban junk mail.
Unsolicited spam calls are already prohibited by the FCC. Emails are heavily regulated by the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003. Junk mail is the majority of mail, 100 million trees per year. Enough!
