@QuestsAbroad I struggled as a new English speaker to find a translation that made sense culturally in USA.... still haven't found one

Spend enough time in Mexico and you will quickly pick up the local custom of saying provecho to complete strangers in restaurants.
While it feels uniquely Mexican, it is believed to be the result of centuries of global history.
The word has Latin roots meaning benefit, but the custom of blessing a stranger is believed to trace back to the Moorish occupation of Spain. The Spanish brought the tradition here, and it stuck perfectly because indigenous Mexican cultures already viewed dining as a sacred, communal experience.
It is a small gesture, but it instantly turns a restaurant full of strangers into a shared community. It is the exact kind of cultural detail that makes you appreciate living here.

@piccucho @lucasaganronald Corruption usually means good things for sport 😅
English

@lucasaganronald Unfortunately México is not safe, and there is too much corruption in the sports establishment. So I am skeptic about it.

MEXICO TO GET NEW PRO STAGE RACE IN 2027 🇲🇽
Big news from Mexico… Cycling federation president Bernardo de la Garza says they’re working on having a Mexican pro cycling stage race already next year called Vuelta a México, finally giving Isaac Del Toro a home race to target.
The idea is to make it a 2.1 or 2.Pro event and slot it into January, similar to how Vuelta a San Juan used to kick off the season.
Really exciting news 🤩

I’ve learned a lot with @duolingo but I can’t stand the amount of shite you need to tap through at the end of lessons, even if you have Super Duolingo.

@RaulGtzNR Es que las ciclovías a veces son inseguro para usar. La verdad prefiero otro carril de lo que sea sin barrera. Solo depende en que los autos respetan.

@DrewThomas1985 Don’t complain about teachers not being paid well if you don’t want to fix it.
My tax money is being used great. You should probably move out of the dump you’re living in.

🚨NEW: A reporter keeps telling Jensen Huang that he said Nvidia would invest $100B in OpenAI. When he corrects her, she continues to ignore his words. We've never seen him get this agitated. He still manages to remain so polite.
JENSEN: "We never said we would invest $100B in one round. There was never a commitment. They invited us to invest up to $100B. We will invest one step at a time.
REPORTER: "Does the commitment still stand?"
JENSEN: "I told you just now. You keep putting words in my mouth. They invited us to invest UP TO $100B. We are honored that they invited us and we will consider each round at a time."

@levelsio Best thing to do is get your own real estate license
English

I'm so done with real estate agents
What an absolutely useless profession in 2026
Nowadays when I go visit houses to buy you get the construction company guy tell you everything anyway, and they actually know their stuff
And then you have some literally low IQ shady car salesman guy hovering around you in the back with NO added information and NO added service
"Yes this house is great because it's north-facing"
And then for doing absolutely nothing zilch nada, they deserve 5% of the house price in commission???
And you can't visit the house direct because real estate agents cover each other asses so the selling agent will tell you to find a buyer agent to be able to visit it
A complete racket 100%
English

@RobF_28 @billybinion So how do you decide how much people can buy?
English

Unpopular opinion: This is why grocery stores *should* hike prices during storms. Otherwise some people hoard all the food the moment they hear snow is coming, as if we’re about to live through the apocalypse. Absurd.

English

@Steve_Beans @billybinion Being screwed over is having to wait in line to enter the grocery store and then when you get inside there isn’t anything left on the shelves.
English

@billybinion Yea. 'Please screw me over hard' is definitely a stupid opinion.
English

Placing arbitrary limitations on purchases at grocery stores just leads to ridiculous scenarios where people aren’t permitted to buy what they need given the number of people they are buying for.
A single guy can buy X number of cans of beans
And then a man buying for several people in his household or maybe even his elderly parents that can’t shop in person is held to that same X number of cans.
Absurd on its face.
You have to have a system that allows for people to purchase what they need and doesn’t require unrealistic and costly bureaucratic oversight. And that system is the price system.
English
Cormac McGeough retweetledi

@billybinion I completely agree! Being able to “price gouge” allows retailers to take risks to bring in more stock before a storm. Intrepid entrepreneurs might even decide to bring in resupplies during or after a storm. And of course it can reduce panic buying.
English

@WorldJudge11 @billybinion Raising prices works better because the people who actually need food will have the items available to them on the shelves, the problem with rationing is you still have tons of peoplebuying, so you have lines and also requires a politician or “expert” to decide how much to ration
English

@billybinion To be fair, this is because DC has a large population of people who have Cluster B personality disorders. We're having a snowstorm. It's not the apocalypse.
