💭Everyone’s self-deportation process is different. You may want to let your employer, your friends and your family know you’re leaving. You may also want to pack belongings or make living arrangements for the next phase of your journey. Remember, if ICE officials arrest you, you may not have an opportunity to do any of these things. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Leadership is demanding answers. @repespaillat @repsylviagarcia @repdarrensoto @repsalinas @repmenendez @NormaJTorres @repgilcisneros @joaquincastrotx Following the fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo during an ICE enforcement operation in Houston, CHC Leadership has sent a letter to DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin and Acting ICE Director Todd Venturella demanding a full, independent, and transparent investigation. This tragedy raises serious questions about the conduct of federal immigration enforcement operations and the growing consequences of the Administration’s escalation tactics. Communities deserve accountability, transparency, and policies that protect public safety and human dignity—not fear. We will continue to press for answers, oversight, and meaningful reforms at DHS.

The son of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who was shot and killed by ICE from an unmarked vehicle: "I saw a video posted on Facebook that he had been shot. I recognized him immediately—not from his appearance, but from his voice crying for help as he lay on the street bleeding out."
