The DSA wants a vocabulary debate because vocabulary is a hell of a lot safer than the actual evidence sitting right in front of everyone’s face. Go ahead. Call it “democratic socialism.” Call it economic justice. Call it worker power, equity, liberation, collective democracy, or whatever focus-grouped slogan tested best this quarter. Knock yourselves out. The branding is very pretty. Now shut up about the labels for five goddamn seconds and look at what they actually say: “Take America down from within.” “Overthrow the entire capitalist state.” “Our goal is communism.” “Death to the U.S.” But sure, let’s all pretend the only thing that matters is the polished mission statement on their website. That’s not analysis. That’s not skepticism. That’s just deliberate, self-serving blindness dressed up as intellectual seriousness. Political movements don’t get judged by their fucking brochures. They get judged by what their leaders say, what their activists cheer, what their members post without shame, and what the rest of the movement defends, excuses, or quietly tolerates.
