@FarmingVirgina @cturnbull1968 It’s just so hard to go down to the DMV and prove you are a citizen. Especially in a country that has such a rampant issue of non-citizens registering to vote. Crazy how that’s not much of an issue in the states that require ID to vote though.

If every American voter, without a passport, decided to get a passport, as their primary form of ID, it would take 5 years to fill the requests. But Republicans want this to be in effect before the midterms.
They know this, of course, so it’s obvious voter suppression.

Essentially, what this shows is that all the gains in freedom in the US since the end of Jim Crow have been wiped out in a single year. And there are another three years to go in this presidency.

The latest data just released from the Varieties of Democracy project estimates that in the United States, the 100-point Liberal Democracy Index peaked at .85 in 2008, slid 10 points under Trump 1.0, recovered slightly after J6, and then plummeted to .57 in 2025 under Trump 2.0, reflecting the largest one-year fall in American history.
