My Dad is a retired Lieutenant of Police. He has shared many things about his experience over the years, but two things I always found relevant that apply here considering recent events: 1. Most criminals really believe they don't do anything wrong. Go watch any police body cam channels on YouTube. I promise you, the #1 thing they always scream as they're getting arrested for their crime is, "BUT I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!" Never fails. 2. It's the most basic rule and simple common sense: if an officer asks you to do something, 👉you comply.👈 An officer doesn’t know your intentions, your mental state, or what you might do next. You do what you're told to keep everybody safe. If you choose to refuse a simple command, an officer can easily see you as a risk. They're not asking you to do something illegal. They're not trying to be a jerk. They're most likely asking you to do a simple and uncomplicated thing like "stop." Or "sit down." Or "get out of the vehicle." Why do they not do these simple things? Trump sent thousands of armed federal officers into our state, and it took just one day for them to kill someone. Now he wants nothing more than to see chaos distract from that horrific action. Don’t give him what he wants.

Ma'am, you know you have every right to enter the facility. Members of Congress have a statutory right to enter ICE detention facilities for oversight, even unannounced, under federal law (like Section 527 of the DHS Appropriations Act), which prevents the agency from blocking their access. So tell them to step aside. Period! Standing there will accomplish nothing. Come on now!

I was just denied access to the ICE processing center at the Whipple Building. Members of Congress have a legal right and constitutional responsibility to conduct oversight where people are being detained. The public deserves to know what is taking place in ICE facilities.
