Resident Evil will never have a good true film adaptation because how can you translate long and repetitive puzzles that make up 50% of the gameplay experience

@Jfcdoomblade The thing is they KNEW how people felt based on his earlier comments. They for sure would know that this trailer would polarize more. Tells me there is no connecting tissue to show or it’s so mid they didn’t even bother because there’s almost nothing there.

What’s wild is there a *slim* chance that Cregger’s RESIDENT EVIL movie does have a game character and they’re trying to keep it a surprise a la RESIDENT EVIL VII: BIOHAZARD

I totally get Resident Evil fans being mad bc they want one true adaption of their favorite game. I also think this movie is gonna be fucking awesome and Zach Cregger is not the guy you hire to direct a story everyone already knows.

Zach Cregger on his 'Resident Evil' movie 🧟‍♂️ "I wanted this movie to tell the story of what would happen if some idiot like me were dropped into the world of a Resident Evil game. So Austin plays not some badass with combat experience like Leon but just an average dude. That makes his experience of moving through this hellscape way more interesting to me than somebody who’s psychologically equipped" "A pistol [is] the first weapon he acquires in the movie. Just like in the games, as he progresses through the world he’ll get better weapons. It’s such a fun moment when you’re playing RE and you finally get the shotgun or the machine gun and I wanted that sense of progression to be in the movie" "Resident Evil is of course a franchise that’s got a ton of zombies but it’s also got all sorts of weirder monstrosities. Really wanted to make sure that we never got a handle on what kind of dangers we’d find. It’s not just a zombie movie. The T-Virus can have a lot of different effects and I wanted to make sure we had a variety of adversaries" "The slow discovery of horrific elements is something I really love about Resident Evil. It’s not a run and gun action game. It’s about tension and atmosphere and so I really wanted to lean into that. As much as there’s plenty of action in the movie it’s equally important to honor the dread. That moment when you look down a dark passage and you know something awful is waiting in that darkness for you. You don’t want to go forwards but you can’t go back. That’s the sweet spot"

- Cregger specifically said he wasn’t telling the story of the games. - We don’t need that anyway, go play the games if you want the story. - Wide lens shots to give the video game perspective, the drawer searching for supplies, ammo conservation, and weapon progression He’s making this an art form. It’s going to be its own video game as a movie. I’m so excited for this as Cregger has an amazing track record
DiscussingFilm@DiscussingFilm

First details on Zach Cregger's ‘RESIDENT EVIL’: • Takes place in Raccoon City during the events of the ‘Resident Evil 2’ game • Filmed to be from POV of a normal guy including - first-person shooter action + wide lens shots over his shoulder • Many easter eggs for the games including weapon progression & creature mechanics

EVIL DEAD BURN director Sébastien Vanicek told @Variety, “there’s 10 full minutes in the movie where it’s complete darkness and all you hear is the chaos going on. Audiences have to imagine what’s happening, and that’s terrifying.”

@nrthchg I totally get ya. I didn’t get the RE feel from the trailer either but I think the city stuff looks promising. I saw another post detailing some stuff like it takes place in Raccoon City during RE2 which is cool. But, showing this stuff would help a ton instead of explaining.

This. I wasn’t excited at all for Resident Evil beforehand due to Cregger’s comments. He made it sound like a cash grab on the Resident Evil name, imo. However, after watching the trailer I am sold. It looks pretty cool. Show, don’t tell.

One thing filmmakers absolutely need to stop doing is talking way too much about their movies before the marketing campaign has even started. Cregger shot himself in the foot with his Resident Evil comments. Otherwise you'd watch that trailer and go "fuck yeah, Resident Evil!"

@miguelaraizac FNAF 1 and 2 together cost about 75 million to make and together have made over half a billion dollars. Say what you will but movies true to the source material MAKE money.

algunos fans de videojuegos prefieren una adaptación pedorra como FNAF sobre algo como Resident Evil de Zach Cregger solo porque tiene referencias baratas y los deja aplaudir en el cine

B/R/A/D/80 @ Dread Central
The new ‘RESIDENT EVIL’ trailer images spotlight something the franchise desperately needed: an ordinary person losing control. Not an unstoppable action hero. Someone terrified, overwhelmed, and completely unprepared for the outbreak. Love this. Let’s talk about it: [dreadcentral.com/images/570491/…]

Zach Cregger wanted his upcoming Resident Evil film to feature the perspective of a relatable, normal person rather than a "military badass" like the games of do. Check out a breakdown of the trailer with the director: bit.ly/49iZTJc

@CodyLeachYT @FreddyInSpace Fallout knocked it out of the park.Different characters, different area but 100% recognizable to any fan of the games. That’s what they’re not doing. There’s nothing wrong with bringing your own vision but it has to reek of the source material if you don’t want to piss people off

@FreddyInSpace I wouldn’t want it to be shot for shot but i do wish more video game adaptations would go the TV series route and be like The Last of Season 1 balancing faithful adaptation with sensical changes.
