The outright contempt and mockery towards most anime and its fans, the calls to censor, calling Japan a hellscape that deserve to be nuked again over anime, mocking any semblance of actual passion or love towards anime, despite dedicating their accounts to it and anime inspired gacha games (which they also relentlessly insult) makes so much more sense when you realize they see the space as basically a school yard to hang out with their friends in, not an actual hobby to engage with.

Honestly it's making so much sense now. Why they show so much disregard for stuff like canon, lore, stories, characters, gameplay, the things the actual fans love and engage with, invest in because it genuinely means nothing to them. They have never gone anywhere near it, their entire connection is extremely externalized and entirely based on casually consuming fan fiction/art and ships, that's what they're fans of and the actual work just gets in the way and is inconvenient to it. It's only use is just using it as basically a hang out space. It doesn't really mean anything to them, your hobby is the equivalent of an empty room to use so why would they care about it changing or destroying anything established about it? It's like a gaming room where one side uses it for Warhammer and the other to hang out and gossip but they all technically get called the "Warhammer club" because they share the same room but then that side gets to decide how the other side actually plays Warhammer and gets input on their game and laughs at them for being nerds about action figures when they're bored, or annoyed the hobbyists are being too loud or enjoying themselves too much. Gaming, anime, Gundam, Warhammer discourse. It's all making so much more sense now. I honestly didn't get how any fans of something could seemingly care so little about that stuff and even mock other fans who do but it's worse than not caring, they've never actually even gone near it.

This recent stuff about just playing RE games is eye opening honestly, I didn't think it was this bad. Just how much of gaming discourse over the last decade was steered entirely by people who don't play games and just engage in fandom spaces? Hell how much discourse about anime too? has hobby discourse just been one big Platos cave? have our hobbies and video games been making adjustments and changes entirely based on people who have never gone near what they demand be changed and know actually very little about it. All because its disrupting their social hang out space and not actually out of any personal investment or knowledge of the thing itself.

Corporations own politics. It doesn't matter who you vote for. Walmart (etc) owns their vote. Politicians sell you out every day. They don't even hesitate. Your voting record means nothing. We are all victims of our own naive sense that voting affects any real change.

@Kheniwyze A local rep in our town has a car service that drives them to and from Boston, which is an hour away. His salary went from 35K a year to 135K over the course of a decade. Told us "I can spend your money better than you can."

@AlHendiify @poe_collector What you'll see is a certain level of landlord, the one you can call and bargain with, is priced out by these teax hikes. They are forced to sell to corporate landholding firms who then demolish properties and replace them with soulless sardine can sized units.

@AlHendiify @poe_collector Yes but... many landlords are forced to hike prices because of endless property tax increases and other financial burdens placed on them by local and state governments.

I’m going say this til I die: business landlords are a principal reason things in your city are unaffordable, why businesses want you in and out of the door, why wages are so low, jobs are so understaffed, and why small businesses aren’t multi generational.

“Capitalism breeds innovation,” and the innovation is dynamically price gouging people based on how much they need something.
