@carolvorders Daily Mail appears to have lifted their explanation from a 2016 Mind Your Decisions YouTube video by Presh Talwalkar. I thought ‘do the brackets first’ meant ‘do the stuff inside the brackets’, does it officially extend to include a factor outside the brackets? Is Presh wrong?

@carolvorders I can understand the ambiguity. My old school calculator and my son’s GCSE one evaluate as 1 with the more recent one adding extra brackets to show workings as 6/(2(1+2)). Google evaluates to 9 showing workings as (6/2)*(1+2). If you need to rely on the L to R rule, add more ()s

@GeraintThomas86 @Pinarello_com I hesitate to offer G tips on learning to ride a bike… but observations from our 3 kids learning (1) weight is super important, get an aluminium frame (2) stabilisers don’t help you learn to ride, a balance bike first is a much better route. (3) Frog bikes served us well.
