@MotoGP⁩ commentary about @alexmarquez73 race today repeatedly referring to “Brother Marc” brings this to mind.

@afneil Tho’ as a BVI resident, I appreciate these visits from UK officials. Others do too. Spkr Hoyle was v. visible working while here, meeting local government, BVI veterans who served in the UK AF, industry reps from many sectors, etc. These visits not unimportant for the BOTs IMO.

Speaker Lindsay Hoyle was on a jolly to the British Virgin Islands when he says he learned Peter Mandelson was apparently a flight risk (unlikely). No surprise he was in the Caribbean. Long been branded ‘long-haul Hoyle’ at our expense, spending more than £320,000 of taxpayers’ cash on foreign jaunts up until last summer since becoming Speaker in 2019. He spent more than £200,000 on first and business class plane tickets plus tens of thousands more spent on chauffeur-driven cars, stays at luxury five-star resorts and restaurants. During a previous Caribbean tour in March 2023, he shelled out nearly £5,500 chartering private planes to hop between the islands of St Maarten, Montserrat, Anguilla and Antigua. In 2024, he spent £22,000 for a five-day trip to meet his counterpart in the Cayman Islands, staying at the Westin Grand, where his room was billed at £679 per night. His snout. Our trough. They really do take us for fools.

My Christmas dinner is going to be a half price free range chicken I got from Lidl. I’ve some potatoes, onions, beetroot, black kale and leeks I have grown myself, and I will smuggle a few carrots from my neighbour in the dead of night…..

@botzarelli Wow. I guess it may come down to what a bank should reasonably do to check chain of title. I'd have thought the amount of diligence expected where there is a very recent purported transfer followed by an application for a mortgage by a new "owner" may be higher?

@iaintucker Ah. It seems the US hasn’t got anything much like land registration so a bona fide purchaser for consideration is protected at the expense of the defrauded actual owner. So as long as the bank saw apparently conforming title evidence there’s nothing for nemo dat to touch.

Aren't these home title 'thieves' that I keep being told I need to insure against actually defrauding the bank who lends against a title that is not the borrower's, rather than me as the legitimate owner who had nothing to do with, and was unaware of, a forged purported transfer?

@botzarelli This reminds me of banks getting customers to pay effectively to insure the bank against their own defaults, but selling it in terrorem as protection for the customer. Which they eventually got in trouble for.

@botzarelli Yeh, I think that's right in the UK. Living where I currently do, I am currently being bombarded with adverts for this insurance, which I think are mainly targeted at the US market. But nemo dat quod non habet, right, whether the US or the UK?!

Right. So we need just a dozen guys, elected from the most batsh!t constituencies that we can find and heavily fund, to get the deciding vote on everything, which would, er, make sure it is the true will of the people who elected all the other guys. Got it!
Elon Musk@elonmusk

One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts. Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring that they serve the true will of the people.

@Ticketmaster process appears to suck. Requires a verification code but code cannot be received to non-US cell on file. And process to change the number on file also begins with a code to the number that cannot receive codes! #Catch22 #HighlyIllogicalCaptain

@SamRaincock I'm really not sure the average person even has any idea of how much a polar bear weighs in comparison to other common items, or even a good basis for how big one is, given they only really see them from a distance in a zoo enclosure.

Wow. Imagine the shock for the Daily Mail when it finds out Tory plans were for fines of £5k - later reduced to £3k - for each missed heat pump sale. What @Ed_Miliband has done is to reduce that to £500. As @TorstenBell says Headline should read “Miliband slashes Tory boiler tax”

Turns out that serendipitously I am going to be one hour away from @SilverstoneUK on 4 August 2024... it would be simply be an error of catastrophic proportion not to buy tickets for @motogp, right...?

@v_j_freeman My melon is somewhat twisted by the idea that Cameo coming on the radio is like Vera Lynn coming on when I was a kid... not quite that linear of course... my 12 year old daughter told me about this cool old band called "The Smiths" she has discovered...
