This is Ichafu on Beyoncé’s head, and her stylist is Zerina Akers, her longtime stylist who also styled her when Beyoncé referenced Igbo Landing in her “Love Drought” performance dedicated to it. Beyoncé has shown no affinity with Yoruba culture. For her to be styled like this shows she knows Ichafu is Igbo headgear. Just in case you don’t know the true meaning of Igbo Landing that Beyoncé sang about, here are the lyrics: "The Water Spirit brought us, the Water Spirit will take us home." (Or in some translations: "The Water Spirit brought us here. The Water Spirit will take us back.") In the film, Beyoncé leads a line of women into the water, mirroring the accounts of the Igbo people who chose the ocean over a life of enslavement. Stop pushing the narrative that Beyoncé is wearing a gele when she is actually wearing Ichafu! This cultural theft you are demonstrating is shameful!
