About 40 years ago I prepared some resources for before-school, after-school, and Saturday morning maths clubs. I found some of them last week, and thought I would share them more widely. Please feel free to use in whatever way you like: bit.ly/45o6DSV

Amazing use of mathematical language 2SF! 🌟 In every @MathsMastery lesson pupils are given Star Words and have the opportunity to use those words and given sentences in Talk Tasks. 2SF's confidence and use of mathematical language shines through in their maths @ArkCurriculum lessons. Here is a short example of one of the children discussing fractions in a partner task. Amazing work 2SF! @AETAcademies

This is one of the most fascinating articles I've read about how experts scaffold learning for novices. It's a bit heavy, so I'm listing the 12 main findings. link.springer.com/10.1007/s10648…

Working on my @researchED1 presentation for 26th Nov at the stunning @UniofOxford Examinations Schools. I'll be looking at research on maths vocabulary & what works. Those who join me will have the chance to feed into our upcoming report too! Give me a shout if you'll be there?

How many ways can you find to show that 10 tens are equivalent to one hundred? Year 4 used their maths toolkits to explain their understanding of place value excellently this afternoon #readytoprogress #enquiry #ncetm

⏳6️⃣0️⃣ seconds on how I like to… ➕ fractions with Numicon to avoid the common misconception that we add denominators! A couple of small step & slight tweak in resource use to support all chn to make the learning step successfully. Can happily share teaching slides if useful!

There’s just great value in exploring the language of maths. It’s a great assessment tool too. The children enjoyed the activity and became intrigued. The lesson that followed was a success. Not surprising with Numicon!

Today P1a read the story ‘10 little dinosaurs’ 🦖🦕 we were so good at counting forwards & backwards that we decided to use the story📖(& our imagination) to pretend that we had ten little dinosaurs to play with, counting them on & off the 10 @Numicon! @MathsScot @MathsStories
