Nearly a year after Jamaica’s Full Court declared the States of Public Emergency unconstitutional, the Campbell v Attorney General ruling remains one of the most significant constitutional moments in recent history. It raised critical questions about the use of emergency powers, the role of Parliament, and the balance between security and fundamental rights. With murder figures now at a thirty-year low without SOPEs, and new security legislation on the horizon, every citizen has a stake in what comes next. Our latest Justice Matters e-brief breaks it all down. Click the link in the bio to read.

Unkept promises! Senator Lambert Brown sounds the alarm on delayed public sector wage negotiations.
Despite unions submitting claims in Nov 2024, as agreed with Minister Nigel Clarke, workers are still waiting for completion. Hardworking Jamaicans deserve timely compensation!

@karendmadden Karen, I agree that it's wrong for girls to cheer for JC and Calabar instead of their own schools.

The schools are making their way into the National Stadium and it's wonderful to see the girls repping their schools instead of KC, JC & Calabar because *checks notes* those are boys' schools and fi guh cheer fi dem self #Champs2026

@mamachell You start wonder if you are living in the twilight zone yet? For them to say Biden was out of it and now to have this guy whose dementia has multiplied his stupidity is mindblowing.

Climate change is not a future problem it is a present reality for Jamaica.
From stronger hurricanes to rising costs and damaged communities, we are already paying the price. Yet the countries that contribute the least to global emissions are often the ones hit the hardest.
That is why climate justice matters.
✔️ Fair access to climate financing
✔️ Stronger disaster preparedness and resilience
✔️ Investment in sustainable infrastructure and communities
Jamaica must continue to advocate for a global system that recognizes this imbalance while taking action at home to protect our people and our future.
Because climate justice is about fairness.
And it’s about survival.

The truth is that, in the years leading up to Melissa, Jamaica was
already showing signs of underlying fiscal weakness. These were
not always evident in the headline numbers, but they were clear
in the structure of the fiscal accounts and in the policy choices
underpinning them.

The Prime Minister continues to try and revise history. In response, Senator Maziki Thame challenges Jamaicans to confront what some may call “uncomfortable truths.”
Rewriting history does not change the lived reality of those who were left behind.
From the 1960s to today, the call remains the same. Stand on the side of justice.
Tell the truth. Fully. Honestly. Without distortion.

@JamaicaObserver Tell us why the majority have to wait? Must they continue to sleep outside? This is an emergency and it shows poor planning.

Senator Scott Mottley did not hold back in today's 2026 Senate Budget presentation.
She reminded the chamber that for decades, Cuba was more than just a diplomatic partner Cuban medical personnel were on the ground in Jamaica's hospitals, rural clinics, and underserved communities, filling staffing gaps that the local system simply could not cover on its own.
They contributed to specialised care, including eye services, and even kept medical equipment running. That programme is now gone. And Senator Mottley's message was clear: the need that created it has not disappeared.

Food security is national security.
We cannot continue to depend so heavily on imports while our farmers struggle with access to land, financing, and markets.
The path forward is clear strengthen local agriculture and support those who feed the nation.
✔️ Invest in irrigation and climate-resilient farming
✔️ Expand access to affordable financing for farmers
✔️ Strengthen linkages between agriculture, tourism, and local markets
Because when we grow more of what we eat, we reduce costs, create jobs, and build a more resilient economy.
Jamaica has the land. Jamaica has the people.
Now we must make agriculture a true engine of growth.
