As voting rights are gutted, the injustice in the South is echoing across our country. We can’t stand by as Black power is dismantled and diluted. It's a crisis for all of us, for all who believe the vote is precious. We do this work for our democracy and for future generations.

We had a great advocacy day with our members speaking with City Council about RISE—our legal services network for Asian immigrants! The RISE network coordinates multilingual legal support for Asian NYers all across the city so that our families can get the help they need.

In a digital world, we can't afford to be disconnected, yet many New Yorkers can’t afford to connect. So in our new report, we're proposing a new way to Get Connected—essentially, by creating a municipal system, a public option for internet service. More: advocate.nyc.gov/connected

Six years ago today, George Floyd was murdered on camera, and this collective trauma catalyzed a movement. Progress has not been straightforward, and in many ways we've gone backwards. But we know the moral arc of the universe bends towards justice.

In times of tragedy, we look to the heroes who run toward risk so others can run away. Together with the city, we mourn with the family of the man killed, stand with those who have been injured, and pray for their recovery.

We still don’t know exactly what caused the fire and subsequent explosions at a Staten Island shipyard tonight. What we do know is that a life was lost, dozens of firefighters have been injured, and that the selfless bravery of first responders helped to save lives.
