Edwin Raymond has shown his commitment to public safety through his courage to speak up when a flawed status quo fails to keep the public safe. Throughout his career, he worked to shape systems from within and create real change by modeling it. We welcome him as new @NYCSHERIFF.

Proud moment to work on this report alongside such amazing colleagues at the @nycpa @JumaaneWilliams as we launch yet another thoughtful & forward-looking policy report, this time focused on closing NYC’s digital divide, advancing affordable reliable internet access for all NYers

In a digital world, we can't afford to be disconnected, yet many New Yorkers can’t afford to connect. So in our new report, we're proposing a new way to Get Connected—essentially, by creating a municipal system, a public option for internet service. More: advocate.nyc.gov/connected

As voting rights are gutted, the injustice in the South is echoing across our country. We can’t stand by as Black power is dismantled and diluted. It's a crisis for all of us, for all who believe the vote is precious. We do this work for our democracy and for future generations.

We had a great advocacy day with our members speaking with City Council about RISE—our legal services network for Asian immigrants! The RISE network coordinates multilingual legal support for Asian NYers all across the city so that our families can get the help they need.

We've been proud to help expand New York City's vital Human Rights Law, to housing, employment, and beyond. But without funding for investigations, without the teeth to go after bad actors, NYC won't live up to the letter and promise of the law. Our city MUST fully fund @NYCCHR.

Denying Black people the right to vote is nothing new. It's ingrained in our country. But a better America will always fight back. MAGA and the Supreme Court are working overtime to disenfranchise voters of color in the South, but our solidarity is stronger than their fear.

Through remembrance, we hope to find solidarity and pursue peace on this Memorial Day, and into the future. Thank you to the New Yorkers in Rosedale and Little Neck-Douglaston who helped uplift the memories, service, and sacrifice of all those we have lost.

Six years ago today, George Floyd was murdered on camera, and this collective trauma catalyzed a movement. Progress has not been straightforward, and in many ways we've gone backwards. But we know the moral arc of the universe bends towards justice.

In times of tragedy, we look to the heroes who run toward risk so others can run away. Together with the city, we mourn with the family of the man killed, stand with those who have been injured, and pray for their recovery.

We still don’t know exactly what caused the fire and subsequent explosions at a Staten Island shipyard tonight. What we do know is that a life was lost, dozens of firefighters have been injured, and that the selfless bravery of first responders helped to save lives.
