The old #LudumDare site lost a lot of data from early events, and I decided to restore as much as possible. So I want to share what came out of it - ldj.am, a complete directory of every LD game, including the leaderboards. I spent months collecting the information from the WebArchive (which was harder than it sounds for some of the events). DM me if you find a mistake. And see you at #LD59ldj.am/59

I also restored support for all the old shortlinks like ldj.am/$421289, redirecting to the new Ludum Dare site (or to a dedicated page on ldj.am itself for Web Archive games). And a new shortlink format – ldj.am/58/idle-badger (redirect). Beyond redirects, there are additional features: • Detailed profile – @notch" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">ldj.am/@notch • All games for event – ldj.am/58

I’ll tell more: n^2 algorithm might be slower than O(n) in the same C++ language. The problem is that computer work is not linear and things like hashmaps are expensive because of allocations and internal unpredictable branches So oftentimes nested sequential loop would be faster no matter what leetcode adopters will tell you.
Dmitrii Kovanikov@ChShersh

An O(n) algorithm in Python can easily be slower than an O(n^2) algorithm in C++ Therefore, Python devs are the smartest devs in the world. They always have to use the most efficient algorithms.

FFmpeg is moving to Rust 🦀 Our use of C and Assembly in FFmpeg has been an unacceptable violation of safety. FFmpeg will be running 10x slower - but we're doing it for your safety. All your videos will appear green - safety first, working software later.

@GergelyOrosz I'm not so familiar with the next/vite development, but I don't really understand what difficulties CF had with running next, that made them rewrite it?

I cannot stop thinking about the implications that Cloudflare / Vinext has on commercial open source, and in general, the cost of migrations, rewrites, and maintenance. One engineer, with AI, proved to be ~100x as efficient as before. This will have plenty of ripple effects

@bcherny Sorry, how do you correctly pronounce your last name – /ˈtʃɛrni/ (Черни) or /ˈtʃɜːrnɨj/ (Чёрный)?

@zuhaitz_dev @GNU_van Jai and Odin were written using a human brain, not AI (and they inspire more trust in that regard)

@GNU_van Because Zen C is a month old project and it's already publicly available while Jai C is over a decade old and you need an invitation to get to use the actual compiler lol
