Polish family offices are finally becoming a thing. And they're not buying condo hotels in Zakopane. For decades, wealthy Polish families had two moves: real estate or bank deposits. Maybe some stocks. The idea of a structured family office doing cross-border industrial M&A was basically science fiction. That's changing fast. Koronea Family Office, the investment vehicle of the Wypychewicz family behind ZPUE (one of Poland's biggest electrical equipment manufacturers), just wrote a $65M check to buy majority control of Turkish transformer producer Atlas Trafo. Three months earlier - a German acquisition. Before that - Netherlands, Czech Republic, Slovakia, UK. All from Wloszczowa, a town of 10,000 people in central Poland. These are first-generation entrepreneurs. No inheritance. No family trust from the 1800s. Just 35 years of compounding in one of Europe's fastest-growing economies. And now the capital is finally being deployed into real businesses abroad, not just passive assets. Western Europe spent decades looking at Poland as "cheap labor next door." Now Polish capital is buying Western European and Turkish industrial assets because the owners there are retiring with no succession plan and Polish operators actually know how to run factories profitably. I spoke to several Polish business owners recently doing similar things - buying competitors and suppliers in Germany, Austria, Nordics. Same playbook: find a solid operation with an aging owner, offer a fair price, keep the team, invest in the factory, plug it into your supply chain. Repeat. Polish companies made 45 foreign acquisitions last year worth over $1 billion. More than double the year before. 34 of those in Europe, 9 in Germany alone. The shift from "park it in real estate" to "buy operating businesses internationally" is the biggest unlock in Polish private capital right now. And the family office wave is just getting started.
