The US Gov't could simply announce a plan (or perhaps the plans could begin to leak) that they are going to put the US Dollar back on the gold standard. People just don't seem to get that the US can simply decide what the price of gold is IN US DOLLAR TERMS, much like they did in the past. That's precisely what it means to be on a gold standard. They aren't setting a price for gold so much as setting a price for the US dollar versus gold. They can print dollars as necessary to buy gold up to the declared price.
I can try to explain the reasoning behind a valuation in the mid-$16,000 range if people get where I am coming from and want to tease it out further.
