That matches our experience here in the DTES. When you provide services and safety for vulnerable people, it makes things better for everyone. But those who are against supervised consumption sites (including Ontario premier @FordNation) don’t actually care about public safety. And they sure don’t seem to care about saving lives. They only care about their own moral outrage over substance use (not all substances though. Alcohol is A++), and about votes/views from their uninformed base. Decriminalization has been a failed experiment. While today's announcement is a step forward, and something we have been pushing for, we still need treatment options for those suffering from addiction and real mandatory care beds. The province announced new mandatory care beds over a year ago and Vancouver has yet to receive a single one.
