@WamGelm @IconSenator @visegrad24 I actually was a supporter of EE. Still think there is relevance. But more focus should have been on education and accountability. I am not supportive of practices that prioritize colour over competence when selecting vendors. That should be purely competitive.

Don't hide the fact, White people are still the richest people in the country, who still own the whole economy and the property market

🇿🇦 South African President Cyril Ramaphosa says that the country will not abandon its DEI policies, known as “Black Economic Empowerment (BEE).” “Those who say BEE and affirmative action must stop are just dreaming,” he said. South Africa has strict laws that mandate race-based hiring practices. A new law called the Employment Equity Amendment Act sets hiring targets for 2025–2030 across 18 economic sectors. Some workforce targets aim for 90–96% of employees to come from designated groups, which include Black people, women, and people with disabilities (minimum 3%). That means that if a company has more than 5% white men, it could face penalties of up to 10% of its income.

When the leader of the DA, John Steenhuisen, was appointed as Minister of Agriculture, DA leaders and members did not ask him about his qualifications (Which he does not have) to be a minister. But now, a young man, Nkululeko Dunga, is appointed as MEC of Finance out of nowhere the DA is questioning his qualifications?

@IconSenator @visegrad24 You cannot also keep blaming the past (which I 100% acknowledge) without creating a future. The biggest failure is the lack of vision and astute governance. No amount of BBBEE is going to fix inequality without a proper economic and educational plan.

Ramaphosa is right about the problem. The question is whether BEE is actually solving it. Apartheid created one of the most unequal economies in human history. You cannot just open the market and pretend 50 years of deliberate exclusion didn’t happen. Some form of correction was always necessary — that part is not debatable.

Most working class South Africans rely on the taxi industry for transport, so they will bear the brunt of the fuel increase. Aside from explaining why people still need to board two or three taxis to reach city centres, the ANC must also account for the decay of the country's rail network. Why has it allowed trains, which are a cheaper and more reliable mode of transport, to be ravaged?

South Africa has funded the vast majority of LHWP capital costs. Phase 2 (Polihali Dam & tunnel) escalated from R8bn estimate (2008) to R53bn now—all raised by SA's TCTA via bonds/loans (incl. R17.35bn direct contrib by Mar 2025 + R26.5bn market funding). Phase 1B & 2 fully SA-funded; Phase 1A had mixed but SA-dominant water transfer elements. Lesotho hosts dams/land (compensated), funds its hydro component, but provides no major upfront capital for water transfer. It receives ~R3.8bn royalties/year (cumulative >R19bn), ~15% of its budget. SA's investment far exceeds Lesotho's monetary input.
