Aang, the main character, barely interacted with anyone but Katara and Tagah. He said like 2 sentences to Sokka, barely acknowledged Zuko and I don’t think he spoke to Toph at all. It’s a an hour and a half long movie that revolves AROUND Aang

I did want to see Katara properly interact with someone in the movie that was NOT Aang. Yet it really did feel like they made her center around him

Zuko is interesting because Azula really brings out the worst in him in a way that seriously complicates the fandom perception of him as a 'soft boi'

I think zuko is a lot less sympathetic to azula than she is to him, I think it's hard for him to "forgive" her for being the favorite (and for almost killing him) and because he has friends now he's not so focused on azula. But he is still the second most important person to her

This has made me realize the avatar state is actually a really good allegory for expressing the grief of a survivor of genocide esp with the way it attacks and speaks with the power and furry of a thousand lost lives/generations. Like woah...

a lot of people misinterpret aang's loss of control of the avatar state as the "touch x and you'll die" trope so they view katara's side as the "this isn't you🥺" but imo it's more an expression of overwhelming grief and fear of losing who's most important to him AGAIN

like once we knew just how much katara means to him in relation to having lost everyone he ever knew and could have known, the scene of him begging the general to stop bears an additional layer
