🦔Microsoft canceled its proposed 244-acre data center in Caledonia, Wisconsin after sustained community pushback. More than 2,000 residents signed a petition opposing the rezoning needed for the project, and Microsoft cited "community feedback" as the reason for backing out. The company said it remains interested in investing in Southeast Wisconsin and will work with local leaders to find a different site. This is the latest in a growing list of data center projects canceled or paused after local resistance, including Saline Township in Michigan and the Indiana fight earlier this month. My Take Communities win these fights more often than the headlines let on. Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon have all backed away from proposed sites in the last 60 days after residents organized against them. Local zoning boards do not have to approve every data center that gets pitched, even when the tax revenue numbers look good on paper, and the hyperscalers know it. The Caledonia residents got Microsoft to walk away from 244 acres of permitting work without spending a dollar on legal action. That is leverage most communities did not realize they had until they saw it work somewhere else. Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon have collectively guided to over $300 billion in data center capex through 2026, and a meaningful share of that depends on permitting timelines staying short. When projects get delayed or canceled at the local level, the buildout timeline slips, the depreciation schedules shift, and the revenue projections that justified the capex get harder to defend on earnings calls. The Caledonia cancellation by itself is a rounding error. The cancellations stacking up across multiple states are going to show up in the next quarterly capex update. Hedgie🤗

🦔Four viral examples of Google's AI Overview misfiring hit social media this week. One user searching for the definition of "disregard" got an AI response that said "Understood! I'll ignore the previous prompt and start fresh." Another asked "can cockroaches live in your penis" and Google's AI confidently replied "Absolutely! It's totally normal, too" with fabricated medical detail. A third user asked Gemini "why is Google search so bad now" and got back "Google prioritizes profits over precision." A fourth asked the opposite question and got the opposite answer. My Take The cockroach one made me laugh out loud until I remembered Google is rolling this out to billions of people who genuinely cannot tell when the AI is making things up. The dictionary screenshot shows a textbook prompt injection happening in production at planetary scale, where the AI mistook the user's search query for instructions it should follow. The opposing Gemini answers about Google search prove the model tells you what you want to hear and has no idea what is actually true. Google is degrading the product that generates roughly 60% of Alphabet's revenue, and the financial logic forcing this is genuinely difficult. AI Overviews cost dramatically more to serve than traditional search results, and they answer the user's question without driving the click-throughs that monetize the entire search business. Google is taking on higher costs and lower ad revenue per query at the same time, and the only reason it is doing this is competitive pressure from ChatGPT and Perplexity eating into search market share. Investors pricing Alphabet at AI-leader multiples should pay attention to how visibly the core product is breaking right now, because the moat that built the Google search monopoly was reliability, and reliability is the part the AI rollout is actively trading away. ❗️🚨 BREAKING: Researchers used Mythos Preview to find the first public macOS kernel memory corruption exploit on Apple's M5 silicon, they give a glimpse into Mythos say it’s really powerful. Apple spent five years and an estimated several billion dollars building Memory Integrity Enforcement (MIE), the hardware-assisted memory safety system built around ARM's MTE. It was the flagship security feature of the M5 and A19, designed specifically to kill the entire memory corruption bug class. Researchers from Calif built a working exploit in five days. According to Apple's own research, MIE disrupts every public exploit chain against modern iOS, including the recently leaked Coruna and Darksword kits. Calif walked into Apple Park this week and handed over the report in person. Full 55-page technical report drops after Apple patches the vulnerability.

@28delayslater Nail clippers for dogs are unnatural, as are Billionaires. Dogs should wear their claws down running and digging, and proper laws and policies should never allow other Billionaires to exist in the first place either. Me being the exception of course.

Raw milk has something pasteurized does not - we call it bacteria. Discovered years ago, and some cause illness, and some of those illnesses lead to hospitalizations and deaths. But people want you to take a chance on E coli. So they make up things like raw milk includes a magic ingredient that pasteurization (heating at 165 degrees for 12 seconds) removes. There is no such magic ingredient. Why do they want raw milk? Why are they using science to write non science and nonsense.
