Nu ser det ud til, at Lars Løkke - en tidligere Venstre-statsminister - vælger at blive fødselshjælper for en rød regering på Pelle Dragsteds nåde, selvom danskerne har sammensat et mere blåt Folketing. Det er selvsagt trist, men det mest forstemmende er ikke så meget, at det er et politisk nederlag for de borgerlige partier og trist for Danmark. Det er det selvsagt, men politiske nederlag er en del af livet på Christiansborg, og dem lever man med. Her er vi uenige, og sådan er det. Nej, det mest forstemmende er, at det så brutalt udstiller, at politik for nogle ikke er et spørgsmål om at realisere deres politiske visioner for Danmark. Muligheden for Løkke lå klar i form af en ambitiøs reformplan, der ville have gjort danskerne 60 milliarder kroner rigere, understøttet den vækst, der skal sikre fremtidens velfærd, og i ekstremt høj grad flugtede med det, Moderaterne gik til valg på. Jeg kan selvsagt ikke se ind i hovedet på Løkke, men det er svært at udlægge forløbet som andet end et udtryk for rent personlige ambitioner om ministerbiler kombineret med en glæde ved at beholde hånden på vægtskålen en stund endnu - for enhver pris. Og den pris kommer formodentlig til at blive ekstremt høj. Og i sidste ende betalt af alle danskere. Jeg hævder ikke, at LA er et perfekt parti. Vi - og jeg selv - har begået åbenlyse fejl. Men vi kan ikke desto mindre sige, at vi før, under og efter valget har kæmpet for liberale mærkesager og for at samle det borgerlige Danmark om en ambitiøs og dybt nødvendig reformpolitik. Derfor er det så deprimerende at bevidne, hvordan politik i virkeligheden for nogle aldrig for alvor handlede om Danmark. Den handlede om ministerbiler. Og først og fremmest handlede den om dem selv.
