The Israeli government is well able to fund the Iron Dome system, which has proven critical to keep innocent civilians safe from rocket attacks and bombardment. Consistent with my voting record to date, I will not support Congress sending more taxpayer dollars and military aid to a government that consistently ignores international law and U.S. law. Netanyahu’s allies in the Knesset just approved a $45 billion defense budget, and the Prime Minister himself also asserted his interest in withdrawing from the MOU with the United States in January. It is fully within their ability to fund Iron Dome and other defensive systems. Our allies who need our military aid must understand that we will provide it consistent with the Leahy amendment and the foreign assistance act.

Congresswoman Pressley. "Birthright citizenship is exactly that: a birthright." That is a tautology. You defined a word using itself. That is not a constitutional argument. That is something you put on a bumper sticker when the actual argument runs out. Running on dial-up in a fiber-optic world, but let us keep going. Here is where this gets genuinely interesting — and I say this with complete sincerity — you are RIGHT that the 14th Amendment is rooted in the fight against slavery. You are COMPLETELY right. And that fact destroys your own argument. Senator Salsbury said on the floor of the United States Senate in 1866, voting FOR the amendment: "I do not presume that anyone will pretend to disguise the fact that the object of this section is simply to declare that FREED SLAVES shall be citizens of the United States. There can be no other object, no other purpose." The AUTHOR of the clause, Senator Jacob Howard, stated in his opening remarks introducing it to the Senate: it "will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are FOREIGNERS or ALIENS." So the amendment was written FOR people who were brought here against their will, who had no other country, who had no other allegiance, who were ALREADY HERE and needed recognition of the citizenship they had earned through generations of suffering. That is honorable. That is righteous. That is exactly what it should have done. It was NOT written for someone who flew in from Beijing on a tourist visa nine months pregnant. It was NOT written for someone who crossed the border illegally last Tuesday. The senators who wrote it said so. On the record. In 1866. You are invoking the legacy of freed slaves to defend a policy the freed slaves' own legislators specifically said the amendment did not cover. Let me also ask you the question nobody on your side will answer. If the 14th Amendment is purely geographic — if being physically born on American soil is the ONLY requirement — then why do children of foreign diplomats NOT receive citizenship? They are born here. They breathe American air. They are delivered in American hospitals. Where is their birthright, Congresswoman? You cannot have an exception for diplomats without acknowledging that jurisdiction means something MORE than geography. And the moment you acknowledge that, the Congressional Record from 1866 tells you exactly what that something more is. One more thing. You represent Massachusetts. Your constituents face real struggles — cost of living, housing, education. What legislation have you passed — not opposed, not tweeted about, PASSED — that put money in their pockets or opportunity in their hands? Because from here, your congressional record looks like an unbroken string of things you are against. The people who sent you to Washington deserve someone fighting FOR them, not just performing outrage for the cameras. But what do I know — I am only a science teacher and Army combat medic who read the Congressional Globe instead of a press release. #MAGA #Veterans #Trump
