@ralecgos @tilde_posting @IKILLPEOPLE18 Not every hero should be playable at every level. There should be heroes who are good for beginners, but they can't be as strong as others at higher levels.

@tilde_posting @IKILLPEOPLE18 Fundamentally disagree. I think every hero should be playable. You have the right to your own opinion. She doesn’t need a full rework in my opinion because when people say that, they just mean “she needs to shoot a gun and aim every heal”. And that’s just never going to happen.

@NASA @NASAArtemis They live in a deadly environnment and let all these cables flying around just waiting to be inadvertently torn off ? Live sockets uncapped. And play with water in the middle of the aircaft to amuse us? seriously?

@HistronicMonstr @AskJentoft @NINtendo_maya No that's why I'm saying. It has great potential for photoscanned, static assets, like the wall. But the tech is just inherently bad for animating stuff. Maybe photoscanned video, sure! Also possible! But animating by hand? I'd bet it won't happen anytime soon.

Gaussian splats are a funny technology because they produce these highly detailed 3D spaces that can be rendered in real time but you can't even use them for animation or games
Plasmanode@plasma_node

So this company 4vd.ai created animated gaussian splats. Hyper realistic. Meanwhile Nvidia is giving us AI slop filter DLSS

@HistronicMonstr @AskJentoft @NINtendo_maya Actually there's not! It's raycasting, which works just fine for legs, but not alot else. You can't animate them traditionally, since they are only created through photogrammetry. They are different from meshes on a very basic level.

@HistronicMonstr @AskJentoft @NINtendo_maya They splots aren't changed! They are just a static asset. There is no interaction, just something moving across the surface. That's the exact kind of background I was talking about.

@AskJentoft @NINtendo_maya The issue is that the splots are non interactive. They might find use as static background, but they can't change, be interacted with, move, etc. Not gonna replace real assets, just background.

Been experimenting with procedural locomotion on #GaussianSplat environments from @theworldlabs . Built a little multi-legged robot in Unity that raycasts against the splat data to figure out where to place its feet, no meshes or colliders involved... Pretty fun to climb surfaces, walk on walls, and set a weird number of legs on the fly :) Still rough around the edges but pretty fun to watch it figure things out. #GaussianSplatting #Unity3D #WorldLabs #ProceduralAnimation

@mauriciob91 @plasma_node @Grimmick_mp4 It can be. Depending on your definition of Ai, which is not universal. But that's not relevant at all, since the original conversation was about whether this is the same as genai, and worth boycotting. You're just arguing semantics. It also does not do object detection.

@olexstein @plasma_node @Grimmick_mp4 That huge difference you are talking about is still under the realm of AI. Just because people think AI is only “Gen AI” and nothing else doesn’t mean GS is not AI. It does depth estimate, object detection, it infers a 3D space from 2D images. How is that not AI?

@mauriciob91 @plasma_node @Grimmick_mp4 No? There are no learned images. It's not a pretrained model. It fits blotches to its target data, without previous training. It's completely different from something like a transformer being used to create "new" data through a prompt. There's a huge difference here.

@olexstein @plasma_node @Grimmick_mp4 GS does have generative elements. You give it images and it generates pixels to stitch them together in a 3D space. It generates pixels from learned images. Just like nano banana generates pixels from learned images. It’s just using different algorithms.

@mauriciob91 @plasma_node @Grimmick_mp4 What's your definition of Ai? I think without that, there is little reason to argue. There are so many definitions, and nowadays most people are talking about generative Ai. Gaussian splatting has 0 generative elements, since it just fits to existing data, unlike an llm.

@mauriciob91 @plasma_node @Grimmick_mp4 Gaussian splats are 3d particles fitted to match the training input, a bunch of pictures from different angles. It's a basic machine learning algorithm, which depending on your definition might or might not be Ai. I personally would argue it's closer to statistics or optimization

@daph_bones @plasma_node Gaussian splats is a machine learning algorithm you run on your own machine. It takes your photos and fits the 3d scene to it. It's not like chatgpt or something in that it runs on a huge datacenter. Just your own PC.

@reinprime @stimmtdochgarn1 @iulian2043 @plasma_node ? No? Gaussian splatting runs on your local machine. It is not a pretrained model that was trained in a datacenter. It's just a classical machine learning model that you fit on your own machine.
